(Part 1 of 3)
My 1st car was a 70 Torino GT. Nice car and unique in High School. However about a year after buying it I totaled it in a wreck! A good friend of mine, Dale, had been driving around in his parents VW Bug for a couple years while he was looking for that perfect Camaro. That’s all he talked about. Camaro this and Camaro that. At this point I didn’t care what I got to replace my Torino, as long as it was “Cool”. Well, in my search, one morning at 6am the paper hit my door and I go straight to the want ads. BOOM! There it was... “1967 RS/SS 350 Camaro, 4 speed, PS, PB. $950.00 OBO”. I was on the phone in a heartbeat! I got the lady selling the car, out of bed. I asked her some preliminary questions, got directions and was ready to go check it out. One small problem… I had never driven a stick before! I called a couple friends to see if anyone could go with me. I finally reached the younger brother of my “Bug” driving friend (Dave) and he agreed to go with me and drive the car while I rode shotgun. We got out there about 6:30, lady still wearing her bathrobe. We take off to test drive this beauty. It was in great shape. The vinyl top was peeling away looking like shag carpet and the paint was a bit faded, but other than that it was a prime specimen of American Muscle Car. It drove equally as well. (At least that is what Dave told me.) I attempted to drive it, but that was a disaster. (to be continued…)
