    About the Hurst shifter-
When they first came out some guys had some of the same kind of trouble. Turned out that 1 of the 2 4mm screws that holds the shifter in from the bottom were loose. These are very difficult to get to. For installation you have to go under the car, loosen the tranny brace so it drops about an inch and reach up past the tranny to pull back the boot (which is a bitch to re-install), then install the shifter from the bottom. Then install these 2 screws with lock tight. As I said, these are very difficult to reach and supposed to tightened to about 3-5 ft-lbs. Might be easier to have your mechanic check them next time you have it in. Good luck
