Yes and North America is a continent not a country. The United States of America is a country. Mexico and Canada are their own countries.

Sorry but it seems funny to have to teach this lesson to adults every time someone makes the above statement.

Difference is you were custom made and not on a production line. ;)

On second thought, at least I hope not. I don't know your mom.

Like that's going to happen. Goodbye to America's middle class....

Didn't they do a study about this with ipads? cost only went up about like 10% so its really not as bad as they made it out to be. Also cost would probably go up even less than that on the camaro, since china is WAY WAY cheaper than mexico and they have to import from china paying for that and taxes. Really if it was 100% built in america would probably cost about 5% more or something like that. Though the bottom line is all that matters sadly, company does what is best for its accountants not its country. Least its an american company though and think a few of their cars are 100% produced in america.

The gt500 is built in america and cost just over 56k. It can be done.

Profits don't create jobs for US workers when they outsource it to places like Mexico. Several Import car makers (toyota, nissan, VW etc..) are more domestic than GM. They opened plants in the US and put people to work. Sure the profits goes over seas but it puts food on the table and a roof over the head of US workers. That matters more to me.

The car is assembled in America, but where is the transmission and engine made? I have a hunch, although I may be wrong that the transmission in the GT500 is mexican. I believe it uses a Tremec and they are made in Mexico.

Keep your chin up, most, "american" cars are near or over 50% import parts.

At least you don't have to think about this every time you get in your car:

http://i.bnet.com/blogs/chrysler-imp...troit-trio.png

"The [Brampton, Ontario] factory began production of the redesigned 2011 Chrysler 300 in January 2011"

They should say, "re-imported from Detroit. . . after Canada."

US auto-trade legislation is awful and results in foreign manufacturers building their cars here at a lower-than-UAW cost which drives domestic manufacturers to build their cars abroad to compete. It really is sad. I wrote a research paper on just this for my advanced economic theory class and some of the data I found would astound you in regard to how much bailout money was spent outsourcing jobs and avoiding employment of UAW workers due to cost. I don't feel the auto industry itself is to blame though they are doing what they can to stay afloat, law-makers are.

The engine is hand built in the United States. I'm not sure where the transmission is built though.

A completely American-made vehicle in UAW plants can't compete unless it has huge potential profit margins, unfortunately. The s197 is one of those platforms that has huge potential profit margins though thanks to it's long production run and less costly components. Even so, I'm sure some of it is imported.
