I need some good wax recommendations from places like Autozone...

I'm having my car clay barred tomorrow and I need some suggestions for good wax that can be bought locally from places like Autozone or Advanced Discount Auto Parts.

I'm use to using Zaino on my previous cars but I heard local places have very good waxes now in days.

any suggestions will be appreciated.

Meguiars NXT Gen II is a very good protectant that has similar properties to Zaino. Every friend I've told about it likes it. It is very easy to remove, and available at AutoZone.

SSOOCH 02-02-2010 12:10 PM

Meguiars NXT Gen II is really good!!

scythezo6 02-02-2010 12:22 PM

I use either Mequiar's Cleaner wax or their Gold Class wax depending on what I need done. I also use Meguiar's claybar kit with a 1:2 mix of meguiar's gold class shampoo and water as lube for the clay bar. Makes my car look brand new everytime.

NXT would be your OTC choice...

NAHURRY 02-02-2010 04:41 PM

Megs profeshional(MirrorGlaze) Hi-tech yellow wax #26,carnauba.
Or like others have said, NXT tech wax, which is a sealant.

NXT has some fillers in it to mask light swirls(suposedly)

I also just bought some turtle wax Ice. Haven't tried it yet but doesn't leave residue from my understanding.

Guys that use the Meguires...does it come off easily?

I know for a fact that the megs Mirror Glaze #26 does and looks awsome!
And it's also a profeshional line product. But being a carnauba, you'll haft to apply more often than the NXT.

I like any of the products offered by Meguires and Mothers.

2LTRS 02-02-2010 07:23 PM

Meguiars products in general. I like the Ultimate line, or NXT.

bumblebeecamaro 02-02-2010 09:51 PM

thanks for all the suggestions. I bought a bottle of the NXT stuff. we are doing the whole clay bar treatment tomorrow.

drtwo 02-03-2010 08:53 AM

tell me how the nxt goes on and comes off. I'm looking to somehow compare it to Turtle wax ice!

rmpackers 02-03-2010 09:16 AM

I use the Turtle Wax Ice and have really good results, but geez seems like you really have to rub to get it off.

The NXT is really easy to remove and doesn't leave residue. It's almost as easy to remove as Zaino. I've used their car cleaner wax before, and it leaves a lot of residue, but it is a product that is over 25 years old.

Turtle Wax - ICE Liquid Polish. Excellent synthetic liquid polish.

(Removal Hint: Make sure you use microfiber towels to remove the polish. Buy the microfiber towels at Walmart)

acatlover13 02-03-2010 01:35 PM

Meguire's NXT is really easy to get off...I used that before I switched to Zaino.

will69camaro 02-03-2010 02:58 PM

S100. Can get it from the local Harley Dealership. We've been using it for years.

scythezo6 02-03-2010 06:02 PM

The Meguiar's Gold class wax comes off easy.

cuspid 02-03-2010 06:47 PM

I have tried them all. I prefer Nu finish a cleaner wax, comes off easy. It was rated #1 a few years ago in consumer reports.

shad2009 02-03-2010 09:26 PM

i only use Meguiars...great product

didn't know they make a sealant, thought Meguires is all wax products

Noah 02-05-2010 03:14 PM

I have a few favorites.

Meguiars Gold Class - easy on and off, but not very deep looking
Meguiars #26 - Easy on extremely hard off, pretty deep
Meguiars cleaner wax is surprisingly slick, the slickest out of the three, but not near the depth or 26. you can't go wrong with 26, I still have great uniform beads of water 5 washes and a month later

I think the term "wax " is used pretty loosely with product manufactures.
It says here http://www.autogeek.net/mg12711.html that it's a Synthetic-polymar =sealant...Sal Zaino calls everything pollishes, why?..I dont know:iono:..I geuss advertising.;)

Fishdadddy 02-05-2010 05:58 PM

I clay Barred mine the week after I got her. then layed a lcoat of Meguir's Carnauba on and she is as smooth as as babies behind. Couldn't believe the difference the clay bar alone made. Probably won't last as long as the NXT but it is a Carnauba Wax not a Sealer wax

xshortd 02-06-2010 09:53 AM

im wondering how you guys apply your wax? by hand or by machine, im planning on buying the meguirs or mothers products but i dont want to use a machine, can i use it by hand?

Fishdadddy 02-06-2010 11:03 AM

By Hand Only for this car! At least for me since it's a third vehicle with minimal use.

I just test Meguiars vs. Turtle Wax Ice and NXT Gen 2 beats it by a country mile. I pulled my car cout of the garage to check the shine and any missed spots and I was nearly blinded by the reflectivity. The ice on the other hand looks greasy no matter how much I buff...

I'mgettingone 02-09-2010 07:30 AM

I have the vinyl stripes.... I read somewhere that the Turtle Wax Ice is safe to apply over them. Is this true? And is this also the case with with the NXT Gen?

Ive got some swirl marks, what would be the best wax to use if i am going to remove with a microfiber towel.

The best way I've found to remove swirls is to start with a coat of either SwirlX or ScratchX 2.0 followed by a coat of Meguiar's Step 2 Polish with a finish coat of Zymol. You can get all these products at Wal-mart, Advanced, AutoZone or O'Reillys.

The key is to use the 90 degree method. Put the products on in one direction, back and forth not circles, and remove in the opposite direction. Alternate application directions between the products to dramatically reduce the visual scratches and swirls.

xBlackout_Camaro 02-09-2010 12:35 PM

Sounds great! thank you!

Springerrob 02-09-2010 08:56 PM

If you like the NXT try the paste. I use the paste on my Harley and on my CGM Camaro with great results. wipe with a microfibre clothe then a diaper!
