sjm autoprod - Concept Afterburner Tail Lights

This is the official thread for our concept afterburners.

As some have suggested, DOT/NHTSA will be on the back burner for now. We have matched the brightness of the stock brake lights and will start with that.

Phase II: Complete Tail Lamps

This is for people that don't want to DIY. Just swap out your stock lamps for ones that have been fully modified.

Please post if you wish to be placed in the list.

Older Info

It's been a long journey, but, we seem to be well on track for hitting a price-point of $500 or less!

Update: $419 is the kit price for first run!

Phase 1: DIY Kits
Tools Required:
  • Trim tool for removing tail-cover clips and bezels
  • Wrench for nuts that hold tails into bumper
  • Dremel or utility knife for separating lens from housing
Other Materials:
  • Silicone Sealant

That's it! :w00t:

The basic kit consists of four light modules and four outer diffusers. After opening the housings and removing the inner lens, the modules mount inside and plug into the stock bulb connectors. If you have non-RS tails, you may want to black out the chrome lip inside. Lastly, you insert the outer diffusers and seal up the outer lens.

You can choose either the original, light outer-diffuser, or, the new, dark version (last two pics). A few other options will be detailed soon, such as flicker and sequential brake/turn.

See below for the group-buy list! When we hit 25 confirmed, the price will be $419 plus shipping! Deposits are being accepted ($127) and these should ship ~4 weeks after we get to 25 (or close).

Note that these are LED's, so, you will need load resistors (4x 6 ohm, at least 35W) to eliminate the Bulb Out errors on the DIC and hyperflashing. You can get them yourself, or, we can supply a set of four with t-taps for $28 (special price for those that have purchased the kit, normally $35).

We will update this thread with more info, and, the important bits will always be found in this first post.

Thanks to all of those that have purchased our other products which have allowed us to get to this point in under one year! :headbang:

Light diffuser on left, dark on right.

Can't wait for updates. Have you tested these with led sidemarkers or the sequential tail light harness?

sjmautoprod 01-17-2012 09:20 PM

Wow. You are quick. ;)

These tails and LED sidemarkers should not affect each other. We don't have those installed yet (cough:Showstopper:cough), but, they are due in soon.

I do know that these will not work with our current sequential-tail kits. It seems logical that other sequential kits should be fine.

Ray@RDS 01-17-2012 09:23 PM

I am ready! what do you need from me? No seq. just them sick a$$ After burners!!!!

yotaman96 01-17-2012 09:24 PM

I have Showstopper's sidemarkers and a sequential harness. I guess you can send me a set of tail lights and I'll test them for you.

Elykson 01-17-2012 10:16 PM

Do i have to go to Showstoppers for install or can i just drop my tail lights off to you. LOL. Pete will have my car in March most likely.

theslayer40 01-17-2012 10:26 PM

Can't wait to see the finished product.

Ringo 01-17-2012 10:34 PM

I have a new set of tail lights in the box for you when your ready to go. PayPal standing by!

bo3adlah 01-18-2012 05:13 AM

thats great an all
but any pics or vids or somethin ?
also if u can prove they work with the showstoppers leds that would be gr8
also pics of them with the lights off in bright daylight would be good
to see the quality of these

Rangore 01-18-2012 05:18 AM

Agree with ^^^^

Very interested!!!!

itsorange 01-18-2012 09:40 AM

only thing I need to know is do you take credit or paypal?

thanks for all your hard work!!

SSTG 01-18-2012 10:06 AM

Subscribed.

GEEo 01-18-2012 10:08 AM

It looks cool.

Ringo 01-18-2012 07:18 PM

As long as you can see them from 1000 feet, they should be legal. Really dig the rifling look to the housing.

mpiper 01-18-2012 10:03 PM

OK, I've been waiting for these since you did your prototypes.

So, how much is it to order a set of these? Are these exchanges or outright prices?

Details, details! We need as much info as you can provide. (oh, and pics as well!)

Don't you have set of Ofer's installed already?

sjmautoprod 01-19-2012 07:28 AM

Info will be posted as it develops.

Note that the price-point stated is for parts only. It does not include the tail lights themselves, or, installation.

clg_98ta 01-19-2012 08:20 AM

It would be great if you could offer an option for an "assembled light package" with a refundable core charge. This way I could order the kit, remove my old taillights, pop in the new ones, and return my old set to you. You would refund me a core charge when you get my old ones.

camarobru 01-20-2012 10:36 AM

these are looking pretty good so far !
especially the bottom picture.
when will you have a finished picture with the brakelight on ?

TripleB 01-20-2012 11:54 AM

Awesome! Once you get it settled, how much for a set shipped to 90250. My car is a daily driver so I can't send mine in and wait for them to be returned if that's how it's being done.

Buffnshine 01-20-2012 12:21 PM

waiting for this as well and a swap out option

Go to the dealer and buy a set like I did. Then when you get everything all swapped in, you can sell the old set that was in your car. There's definately going to be people wanting them when this hits.

sjmautoprod 01-21-2012 10:39 AM

Core swaps are what we want to do for those that don't want to install themselves.

The install is actually not bad. Cut the outer lens off, remove the inner lens, install the light module and diffuser, then, silicone the outer lens back on. ;)

Thanks. The first pic in the first post shows the brake light on.

Monst 01-24-2012 08:43 AM

Are you able to ship the parts and instructions yet or is it mandatory to send the taillights to you?

puertoricanfont 01-24-2012 04:51 PM

pm price to 14701. And this can be a self install correct?

Parts-only is in the plan and will will be the most economical approach.

We will be ordering a few sets of prototype LED boards shortly to start the process of finalizing the design.

Ringo 02-11-2012 10:40 AM

Any news or updates Tony?

sjmautoprod 02-11-2012 10:06 PM

Nothing new yet. We should be able to order some new, fabbed parts this coming week, though. It's been an active weekend so far.

Ringo 02-12-2012 12:14 AM

Cool!

sjmautoprod 02-12-2012 10:01 AM

There should be no interaction between tails and sidemarkers.

I know our sequential kit would not work, but, I don't know about others.

Elykson 02-14-2012 10:21 PM

Picking up a second set of tail lights. Do you think RS or non RS would look better? I'm thinking the darker RS tail lights would look better.

sjmautoprod 02-14-2012 10:26 PM

RS. If you had non, I would suggest painting them to be like the RS.

Elykson 02-14-2012 10:30 PM

This way I get a second pair in case I do something bad. Haha

Maniature 02-23-2012 08:21 PM

any updates???

sjmautoprod 02-23-2012 08:37 PM

We've been busy with orders for existing products, so, tails have been delayed a bit. End-of-year wrap-up does not help, either. :(

The up-side of being busy is that it makes it easier to invest in parts for the tails. :D

Elykson 02-23-2012 09:43 PM

My tail lights arrived. I'm ready to come over and have you show me what needs to be done. Haha
