A 2011 Camaro convertible has been spotted at the Oshawa plant with a new taillight design (video below)! Member CamaroScotty spotted this yellow Camaro driving in the Oshawa facilities this past weekend. What we can make out from this sighting is a Camaro convertible featuring a new "sunglass" shaped taillight design, with LED lighting, and the afterburner lighting effect (think Camaro concept tail light).

This new design would not come as a complete shock and is not without precedent. It was in fact a tail light design seen on a concept clay models (as seen below).

This sighting leads to more questions than answers -- Is this design headed to production? If so, for the 2012 Camaro? Is this part of a future Camaro facelift? Will this be a Euro-only design? Will this only be on the Camaro convertible? No one has these answers just yet, but stay tuned!

Here is a member's rendering of what the new tail light design will resemble:

Ya, I thought the same thing, maybe it was the light reflecting off the yellow.

Awesome find. Thankx for the share Scotty.

the tail lights almost look LED??

skuttduck 08-23-2010 02:36 PM

I totally missed that when there. I also recognize that it is a 2000/2001 Toyota Camry that is blocking the view.

I see what he means by Euro. Look at the video again, the tail lights are clear, but light up with RED LED's when the brake is applied. Pause the video at 15 seconds. Look at the tails.

Nah, I don't think so, and the mirrors aren't any different either.

;)

Great job Scotty- now you just ruined our chances of getting into the plant! Just kidding....(I think).....

The rear fascia is also different. There are only 2 tail lights on the euro spec'd car compared to four on ours. Each tail light actually has a sunglasses shape:

Why does Europe get the different design?? I could understand if those were an option for LED lights... but why change the design for Europe?? Could you please elaborate Hylton ??

Countries have different regulations when it comes to vehicle specifications. For all European countries, you MUST have amber as the color of your rear turn signals (ours are red) and you MUST have a turn signal indicator on the side of the car hence the turn signals in the mirrors (like the Japanese spec'd out cars). You must also have rear foglights which I believe is incorporated in the tail lights seen here. GM cannot sell any cars in Europe without these conditions being met.

There are some pics of 2010 Camaros that look identical to ours driving around europe however, I believe they are grey market cars.
