2,900 lbs. Supercharged LS7 pushing 600 hp. Carbon fiber body. Starting price guestimated at around $100,000. Made to compete w/ the worlds best supercars.

http://car-reviews.automobile.com/ne...corvette/1321/

What makes the Blue Devil such a hot item is its engine. It has been reported that under its sleek hood, the potent LS7 V8 has been bumped up to 600-horsepower, thanks to reworked internal components as well as a high-boost supercharger and intercooler combo, the latter confirmed by witnesses who heard the audible whine of the blower. While high-performance Vettes have always used more cubes to gain crucial power advantages over their naturally aspirated V8s, the idea of a supercharger doesnt seem that far fetched considering Cadillacs recent addition of blowers for the V-model XLR and STS.

For a vehicle thats slated to be the modern day equivalent of the rare, but brutally powerful L88 Stingray, or the two-of-a-kind ZL1, the Blue Devil will pack more than just a powerful punch. To go along with this blueprinted motor, the sharky C6 will shed its skin for a new kind of resin. While fiberglass has long been used in Corvettes for its light weight and relatively cheap cost, body panels for the Blue Devil will be constructed out of carbon fiber. Combined with other lightweight components in the suspension, chassis and interior, it has been projected that the halo Vette will tip the scales at just 2,900 lbs.

Super Vette Spied!
Chevy’s 650-hp Corvette SS on track for 2008 intro

By BOB GRITZINGER

AutoWeek | Published 10/05/06, 8:34 am et

Nearly three years have passed since we first reported on Chevrolet’s plans for a super Corvette, a halo model well in excess of the already superb Z06. Judging by these spy shots, it appears assurances we were given earlier this year that the car was on the development fast track (“To Hell and Back,” May 8) were right on target.

While the hood scoop indicates this is something other than an ordinary Z06, the real prize is under the hood where our spies heard the whine of what is most likely a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 pushing as much as 650 hp. The engine, which will be hand-built at a rate of 1500-2000 per year at the General Motors Performance Center outside Detroit, features an integrated intake manifold intercooler similar to the one GM developed for the Cadillac STS V-Series.

So far, names for the production supercharged Corvette include everything from Z07 to Blue Devil to Corvette SS to Sting Ray. No matter what they call it, look for production of the 2009 model to start in early 2008. And set aside at least $100,000 if you want to one in your driveway.

Super Vette Spied! Again!
Chevy’s 650-hp Corvette SS caught heading in for EPA testing

AutoWeek | Published 11/06/06, 9:03 am et

Not even a month has passed since we first reported on Chevrolet’s plans for a super Corvette, a halo model well in excess of the already superb Z06. Judging by these spy shots, it appears assurances we were given earlier this year that the car was on the development fast track (“To Hell and Back,” May 8) were right on target.

These photos were taken by George Kachadoorian just outside of Ann Arbor last week. He suspects the car was headed in for EPA testing.

While the hood scoop indicates this is something other than an ordinary Z06, the real prize is under the hood where our spies previously heard the whine of what is most likely a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 pushing as much as 650 hp. That off-again/on-again super-Corvette is definitely on, according to General Motors performance cars chief Tom Wallace.

Wallace, who replaced recently retired Corvette chief engineer Dave Hill, tells AutoWeek the biggest challenge facing the so-called Blue Devil Corvette is figuring out how to get 600 hp to the ground in such a way that it can be handled by a driver with the money to buy the car.

Wallace said GM is considering requiring that Blue Devil—and even Z06—buyers attend a driver school as part of the price of admission.

FWIW

Dude...you're going back to driving school. I wonder how the other car companies are doing it. That's a crazy amount of hp in such a lightweight car. I just couldn't imagine!!....

Great idea by GM, they have offered a driving experience through SAAB for years already :D

So do we know just how many of the supercars there are? I ask because in this thread, we see 3 "supercars". Plus, they are driving around on city streets. My guess is that GM would first want to keep these somewhat secret and second, not be putting their project cars in jeapordy by placing them on the roads w/ all the elements... (ie. other crazy drivers!!!).

No "Blue Devil" or "Corvette SS." "Sting Ray" or "Z07?" Not sure. :D Pictures are most likely real as real as can get.

I like that but I like the idea of the bringing back the stingray name.

BlacLac02 11-16-2006 02:13 PM

i thought it was supposed to be a supercharged 427? that said it was a supercharged 6.2l
