1LE gears and half shafts?

You guys think we could swap? ( I am hoping )That would be awesome... could be a better budget priced upgrade. Hell at lest the axles would be great, the price for axles is crazy! Also cant believe this will not be the Z 28... this 1LE is the car I figured for that.

Not a direct swap. Waiting for someone to swap the whole pumpkin and see if it works. Would love to have the 3.73 gears, iron center, bigger axles, and cooler for autocross abuse.

The 1LE actually comes with 3.90s but it did not state that it from the ZL1... I am actaully hoping it is the same rear as the SS just with the 3.90s and better axles!

I am interested as well, if you could get the ring and pinion straight from the GM parts desk and have them put it in maybe warranty could be maintained

The gear ratios in the transmission are different on the 1LE as compared to the SS. I am sure you can put in a 3.91 final drive, but you will not end up with the same gearing as the SS. In the official 2013 thread I did the calculations for the ratios and speeds. So I guess it depends if you want exactly the same gearing or just the 3.91 for all around lower gearing.

Its a 3:91 ratio, it uses the same housing as the regular SS so it is interchangable. you computor would also need to be reprogramed for the different gear ratio. If a GM dealer does the install using new GM parts you get to keep your warranty.

These must be the same American Axle gears that is currently exclusive to LPE. I sure hope the GMPP parts price will be much better. According to various threads, re-program of the speedo won't be required for our LS3s! Woo-Hoo

I sure hope the forum vendors can provide the 1LE gears and axles once they get a part number for them!

This is very good news! Rick do you know when the 3.91 gears will be available?

sizzle06 03-30-2012 08:47 PM

I'm also interested in the gears

Kronix 03-30-2012 08:59 PM

It looks like Lingenfelter has the 3.91 Ring & Pinion set for $799, they're manufactured by American Axle & they are the makers of the OE stuff for the Camaros....I bet these are the same gears as the 1LE

Not sure how this is possible??? The factory LS3 has 3.45 gears, and your saying you can install 3.91s and not worry about recal. the computer, makes no sense.

I installed 3.73s into my L99 and had to recalibrate for correct speedo readings, they ungraded to 3.91s and had to recal again.......

Not required for performance I guess but if you want your speedo to read accurate highway speeds, it will need to be recalibrated.
