40th Anniversary Camaro die-cast??

I finally received my diecast from Chevymall.com. What a very nice piece of steel. I was surprised to see them label it as a 40th Anniversary Edition though? What do you guys think, should they have boxed it that way or not. Right on the box it says "Camaro Concept." I think they should have left it at that. UNLESS: They are hinting that it will be released as a 2007 model?? 1967-2007 is what it says. What do you guys think.:iono:

Not a chance.

Sorry bro. GM is officially saying first quarter of 09. But, we all know that one can sell a next model year vehicle a year earlier. I would imagine GM wants this to hit the dealers asap so they can start bringing in the big bucks. But, they can't do it until they get all the bugs out and final decisions made. I said it months ago and am sticking w/ my guns. I think GM wants it out as soon as possible and if they can release it in late 08, they will. But, there CAN NOT be a 40th anniv edition. That would mean GM would have to build an 07. It can not be done due to the old St.Therese contracts (had the contract to build the Camaro through 08). The next Camaro GM can officially build is the 09. Not feasible. Don't know why they put it on the box. Marketing? Maybe just because it's a concept?

Exactly. An '07 or even early '08 release is near impossible (will not say impossible as anything can happen). From spending way too much time browsing the internet for Camaro information I have read many reliable reports from individuals stating that the way the Oshawa plant is currently set up there is absolutely no way it can begin production before sometime well into '08. We will get it eventually...

The 67 was the first anniv. The 97 model Camaro was the 30th anniv and the 02 Camaro is the 35th anniv. Therefore, the 40th anniv would be 2007.

Thank you, there was no way 1999 could have been the 30th anniv. 67-2007 thats forty, and their stickin to it.

I was initially thinking GM might go ahead and release an 07 calling it the 40th anniversary. Then, I was enlightened to the fact that the St.Therese plant had the GM contract to build the Camaro through 08. All Camaros would come out of that plant straight up until the end of 08. Then, they could be built anywhere else. The contract stayed even when GM pulled the plug. That's why GM is calling it the 09 and debuted the concept when they did. That way they could make the changes they needed and get the new plant all set up, etc. This will be the best mass produced muscle car ever built....for sure. :headbang:

moose what is the number on the hotwheels car (each car is numbered on the box for each year) this way I can find it in the stores a little easier.

Moose, that framed picture looks great! They really did a great job. Now I need to get two diecasts...one red and one silver. I wonder if any stores are selling them yet or if it's just GM. Anyone know?

Moose 11-26-2006 10:39 AM

jbynum69, look for the yellow stripe down the right side of the package. The number reads 02 of 36.

Tag, I've been looking all over for the DUBS 1/18th concept in the stores. I haven't seen it anywhere yet. But, I know of a couple of on-line diecast dealers that have them, and they're cheaper then buying them from GM! Do you know there's also a model kit from AMT of the concept?! My next purchase. :D

yeah as far as I know they are still available only online. And had I known that GM would be having this car made through DUB, I would have bought it there instead, now, I have 4 of them coming. I have the Silver from GM, and I ordered another silver, a red, and a 1/64 version from DUB. Oh well at least now, I can take one of the silver ones out and hold it until I can hold the real deal.
