Camaro Sales -- 6,000 Sold orders 84% SS V8!

To date we have accepted over 6000 sold orders, 84% of which are SS. We will not be able to build in this model mix, so make sure you are setting your customer's expectations correctly to avoid the high potential for dissatisfaction. But keep taking sold orders !!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember, the allocation number we have given you is for the first 20,000 built covering production thru September. If things go right we will far surpass that number by year end.

Orders to date:

LS: 2%
1LT: 4%
2LT: 10%
1SS: 7%
2SS: 77%

Wow. I imagine they're a bit surprised at the heavy lean towards the V8. They may have to rethink their initial run allotment, and eventually get back to the larger V6 split. Hopefully this doesn't mean we have to wait for months and months to get an SS!

It sounds like they can't build that many SS cars initially. What did they expect from enthusiasts?

They are planning on building a larger percentage of V6's than V8's, so they will not be able to manufacture the 84% split that the preorders consist of. Meaning longer wait times for SS's :(

o2camaross 10-27-2008 03:09 PM

well they better figure out how to bc they are going to have some pissed off enthusiasts if we're gonna have to wait another six months

Txturbo 10-27-2008 03:10 PM

it means....half of you need to go cancel or change your order :sm0:

o2camaross 10-27-2008 03:11 PM

yea, half of you guys go do that

Do we know who/what was the original source of the info? There is a lot of speculation right now.

wtf

Mr_Draco 10-27-2008 03:30 PM

I knew GM's anticipation of a 50/50 split (V8/V6) for orders was too low as I was expecting more of a 60/40 split (V8/V6) but I would never never have guessed a 84/16 split. Looks like 1 out of every 3 orders won't be built during this allocation period. :(

Mr. Wyndham 10-27-2008 03:32 PM

This is only early numbers. Once it becomes public knowlege that this car exists, the V6 count will bump up, and all things will be level. a 50/50 split of a conservative 50,000 cars is 25,000 SSs...and only approx 5000 have been ordered. Nothing to worry about, imo...at least not yet.

Txturbo 10-27-2008 03:32 PM

it was supposedly a letter from GM.

headpunter 10-27-2008 03:33 PM

yeah because the nonenthusiast has been keeping track of when the camaro is coming out. seems silly for them to think ohh yeah people looking for a new v6 car would be the majority of people ordering...
