CTS-V 6 Piston Brake kit from $1185.00 (updated)

7/09/2015

I just check prices on the front rotors and they have gone up t0 $255 / $258

Be aware my pricing in this thread is from 2013.....subject to change!

5/08/2015:

If you need dust seals for the CTS-V/ZL1 calipers or pistons/seals here are the parts numbers:

19207044 Dust Seals: Appear to be dealer only, about $25/caliper
25940445 Pistons & Seals (dust seals not included) $116.96/caliper

4/4/2013 I updated the title price from the $1050 to $1200 because the ACDelco pads ($45) are not the same material as the OEM Brembo/Ferodo 1000 pads. ($175)

PIF = Pay it forward....I will use this to mark threads for information I have located or found that I could not find easily here and may save other the time and some money.

Time to pay it forward! I finally ordered my set-up today so it was time to share.

From my research into 6 piston set-ups for my car I found by far the lowest prices on Amazon if you are willing to use Silver or Yellow (or powder coat). The qty in stock fluctuates and sometimes the items go on back order, but if you keep checking back they are usually restocked often.

You can get a 6-piston front big brake set-up for about $1050.00 to $1300.00 depending on rotors and lines you pick.

Here you go: Part numbers and prices as of 3/18/2014

Silver CTS-V Front 6 piston Caliper
ACDelco 172-2488
$246.46

Silver CTS-V Front 6 piston Caliper
ACDelco 172-2487
$250.62

Yellow CTS-V Front 6 piston Caliper
ACDelco 172-2521
$240.11

Yellow CTS-V Front 6 piston Caliper
ACDelco 172-2522
$265.79

Front pads (See Notes Below)
I removed the less expensive front AC Delco Pads as the material is not the OEM Brembo/Ferodo 1000 material.
For track use please purchase the OEM pads p/n 171-1040..About $175
See page 3

Front Pin Kit
ACDelco 18K2108X
$20.98

Front 2-Piece Rotor ZL1/CTS-V
ACDelco 177-1145
$222.56

Front 2-Piece Rotor ZL1/CTS-V
ACDelco 177-1146
$246.87

Front Dual Cast Rotor CTS-V
ACDelco 177-1105
$165.57

For the CTS-V upgrade on an SS you will need:
  • Two calipers (silver or yellow),
  • A pair of rotors: 2 Piece are better for cooling and are directional (L and R) 1 piece are cheaper, cooling is not as efficient and they "click". (search CTS-V brakes clicking) All 2012+ CTS-V use 2 piece rotors
  • Pads: Stock are listed....other High Performance options available.
  • Pin Kit
  • Caliper Bolts: ( I got mine from Rodgers Chevrolet: P/N 11570788 $3.19 each (I couldn't find the correct ones on Amazon)
  • Brake lines: (CTS-V/ZL1 front lines are a tad longer) I ordered Goodridge lines from a distributor. P/N 12227 ($185ish/4) is the ZL1 kit or you can get stock front ZL1 lines from the dealer (about $110/pair)
  • Brake Fluid: ( I used Motul 600) about $15.00 online, need 2-3 bottles.
Disclamer: Use list at your own risk...I verified fitment of the ACDelco numbers by searching them on Ebay....Once found I looked at the fitment listed for each part number to confirm.

UDATE: 4/4/2014
I ordered the OEM pads and received them today.......The pictures do not do them justice as far as how different the material is betweern the OEM pads and the AC Delco pads

I have received data in regards to the factory pads temp ranges from testing at GM and will share what I can later....

Finally, I am using the Silver CTS-V rear calipers to match the front and they ARE NOT a direct bolt on. Both the GEN1 and GEN2 calipers require modifications to use. I KNOW "but everyone says they bolt on" They are all wrong as a modification is need to both to use.

I ordered both sets-to view/confirm the differences....I will post a separate thread about the calipers, differences and mods that need to be made to use them.

-Matt

Do you really need CTS-V big brakes!

Great info Matt !
I havent used my brakes enough yet to justify this upgrade, but have the feeling it's likely to be my first mod.
Are the caliper numbers left and right?

ssmike 03-18-2014 08:02 PM

Thanks for posting! Those are good prices! I'll be doing this next year and I'll probably get the silvers and send them to Mike the powdercoater for $180 to match the RJT of the car!

flyinglow57 03-18-2014 08:17 PM

same part number for the first 2 piece rotor and the cast rotor just a heads up

Even are right hand side...odd are left for all GM parts (at least they are suppose to be).

2 piece rotors are directional and left/right as well because of the cooling veins...1 Piece Dual cast are not directional

This brake set up makes a huge difference in stopping power....

Damn, I just got ZL1 rotors that cost a lot more than those....oh well, next time...

And for the record, I'm not Consumer Reports either, but I did compare 60-0 distances so I would have that knowledge.

Do these bolt right up or is there an adapter needed to make them work?

They will bolt right up...you need a little longer brake line than the stock SS

I already have the SS brake lines I got when intalling my Pedders suspension. Could you tell me length of the 'longer' lines so I can compare? Thx.

If anyone is wondering about weight. I saw someone on here took their weights before. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/19/8ahuvu6e.jpg

Common Racer VS. Engineer debate......E: "On paper it should do X" R: "But on the track it is doing this" I am a driver first with an engineering backround that works in sales :) Many years ago I stopped worrying about the how/why and focused on the what if felt like on track.....A real driver can tell when something works and when it doesn't. Lap times are the only confirmation I need.

I am not doing this for 60-0 or 100-0 one hit wonders. I want larger area for heat dissipation, improved cooling and large swept area. I am doing this for repeatability on track for 20+ minutes session. I need the sames results on the 3 lap and the 15th lap.

I do not know the delta in length as I don't have my lines yet. I can measure when received and report back.

Great, thanks for posting....

Yes the 2 piece rotor is heavy than the dual cast....But the way the dual cast is made it allows cool air to escape from the openings if brake ducts are used, the veins are not directional and sections of the veins are blocked by design. 2 piece is better for the track.

That is great pricing for sure; it is actually below what a GM dealer pays.. I've noticed this on a few other parts over the last few months as well and I wonder how they do it. We do have the correct Goodridge brake line kit, the 12219 will not work with the CTS-V calipers.

Funny you should mention the pricing. I just ordered a GM heated seat kit for my truck from Amazon. I priced it at several of the local dealers and I got similar comments like "wow! that's below my cost!". I thought maybe this was a fluke but several other on-line merchants were not *that* far off from the price I got on Amazon. Seems like there is something going on.

Corrected....I have the 12227 on order...

I spent some time at Rodgers Chevrolet yesterday and we looked at their cost vs Amazon...It is not even close.

These are really good prices but considering I'm from Alaska I will get killed in shipping. Is it ever available for Amazon prime? If it is then ill get mine

Thanks Dropspeed :happyanim:This was such a good deal I ordered my set up seconds after reading this thread, can't believe I missed it yesterday. Now I just have to wait til everything gets here to install all my upgrades for the year. Better call Tyler for brake lines and pads in the next couple days once I decide on a pad to run.

td195f 03-19-2014 06:37 PM

This agrees with what I found and ordered also, two yellow CTS-V six piston calipers from Amazon that I will glass bead and paint red to match my current 1LE calipers. Got the hi temp vinyl Brembo and Chevrolet stickers off E-Bay. I went with the StopTech Sport Slotted Cryogenically Treated Rotors. They are directional.
Left is Part # 126.62128CSL
Right is Part # 126.62128CSR
Tire Rack has them for $165 each

Eddiefuzz 03-19-2014 07:59 PM

FYI, If you find an Item on AMAZON that you like, and the price isn't as low as you like, add that Item to your wish list and the price might go down. I bought a pair Hotchkis front end links for $99. After I bought them, I told a friend and the price was back up to $199. I have an AIRAID CAI filter on my Wish List now, the price has gone down 20% in two weeks. I don't need it, I'm just experimenting...

BUTT72 03-20-2014 02:36 PM

Will this fit the V6 also? Beside trimming rear dust shield, will there be any other mods needed to make fit? Price seems great considering I see used Brembos going for similar prices.

Synner 03-20-2014 03:16 PM

They're overstock distributors so price will fluctuate with supply. Although the AC Delco part numbers can also avoid the GM part "tax" since you circumvent the middleman and go direct to supplier.

monstertodd 03-20-2014 10:19 PM

Isn't there some trimming required for this brake kit?

The backing plates, unless you replace those as well.

What made you go with those rotors? I was thinking about getting the ZL1 2-piece but drool over the RB slotted ones. I can't see spending $1000 or so! I don't think that's gonna happen.... hahaha

Any weight advantage with the StopTech over the ZL1 2-piece?

I'm looking to track the car about 3 weekends a year and plan to just change out pads between street and track use if the track pads squeal.

I went with these rotors because of the price and the Cryo treatment, which should increase the life of the rotor.
Once I got them I realized that they are not dual cast like the one piece Cadillac part. So the rotor is all iron and heavy. I haven't weighed them yet and I'm not sure I really want to know the weight other than you can hurt yourself carrying them around. These rotors are almost as big as the ones for the 12,000 lb brakes on the front of my dually.
The one piece Cadillac CTS-V or the two piece Cadillac CTS-V or ZL1 rotor will weigh less with the aluminum hub section.
When I bought the StopTechs they were a better price than what I could find on the one piece CTS-V Rotor by about $40 each, so I got the slotted and Cryo treated rotors for less than the stock one piece. It appears the one piece rotor price has now gotten lower than when I pulled the trigger on this.

Got the rest of my goodies today.....

Note the angle of the picture is making the rotor appear to measure larger than it is.

I looked these up on Amazon & noticed the rear calipers are 4 piston & look similar to the SS front Brembo's, so would they fit on the front of the V6's? If not I would definitely get the 6 pistons for the front over used SS/1LE Brembo's, as soon as I confirm they'll fit w/out major mod to do so.

No...The rear brakes on the CTS-V, ZL1 and SS all share the same caliper however the crossover tube and bleeders the opposite ends on the CTS-V second gen rears because of the forward mounting position. If you look at the SS you will see the rear calipers are smaller than the front.

Bottom line, no the rear calipers will not work on the front of any Camaro.

The total package for a CTS-V brakes set-up is still about double the cost of the SS 14" 4 piston set-up. You need to look at what you need the brakes for (looks, show, track ect) and decide what you want to spend. I would bet the 4-pistons are more than sufficient for most including auto cross and open track days.

BUTT72 03-21-2014 09:53 PM

Thanks for the info. On Amazon both front calipers & pin kit totals $525, new. I see used front calipers here sometimes going for $600. I would get new lines, pads & rotors anyway. I plan on piecing the kit together. Theses are a bit over kill for V6 though, I don't track just daily driver. But the V6 stocks look like staples with my black wheels, so it is more for looks.
