These factory reproductions will likely be made of cast aluminum which makes them MUCH cheaper than the OEM forged wheels. Cast wheels are on most cars from the factory because they are strong (safety) and cheaper to make in high volume. The factory SS/RS wheels are cast, for example. The biggest disadvantage to cast wheels is weight.

The weight penalty of cast vs forged depends on the style of the wheel. I many cases it is less than 2 pounds.

Exactly... the are two schools of thought here. Ones that want an entire set of wheels for daily driving and those who just want 18" rears for drag only and don't care if they match the front. It's nice if they are the same color but not required.

We struggle like crazy to get one or two sets off the boats from China. It would just be nice to have a go to spot where these can be ordered up.

In the prior thread before it was removed, Doug stated that the 10" wide wheel was only 1 or 2 lbs heavier than the OEM. If that is the case, then that should make these wheels a tad lighter than the stock RS/SS 20" wheels which would be fantastic. Of course, that may change by a hair with the new wheel design.

Was GM not issued a patent design for the SS/RS wheel? :iono:

Yes they were I think. That's the reason the reproduction rs wheels are different

Any black would be great. I prefer satin.

Just bumping because this is my fav thread in the wheels section :D

Darn! I really liked the polished and black SSX ZL1 wheel. I hope they resurface somewhere in the future. The SSX wheel is one of the best looking oem wheels produced in two decades IMO.
