68 charger what should i offer
 

Hey guys i'm looking at a 68 charger

The person selling the car wont tell me what he wants for it and wants me to make an offer

The engine was rebuilt 8 years ago
-starts no problem but wont idle owner said it has a few vacuum leaks and should be an easy fix
-the rear quarter panels changed around the same time
-new gas tank and gas line(needs to be installed)
-interior needs to be replaced (seats ripped and panels don't look to be in good shape)
-says he has all the missing pieces didn't go through them to check
-its a console automatic original silver w/ blue interior
-he said its a numbers matching engine and transmission

its a Canadian car if that changes the price

Don't want to offer to much for a car that needs a lot of work

Know the original options? Even poorly optioned (i.e. lower trim levels, engines, etc.) Mopars demand high coin. They're the creme da'la creme of classic muscle when it comes to market value.

A numbers-matching 383 non-R/T is around $13,000.00 for low retail value on NADA, but that constitutes better condition than what you see here.

Low retail value description:

This is a project car, so you can expect to at least halve that. A respectable offer for the car would be $6,000.00. See if he bites.

I would start at $3k, and see what his reaction is.

There's a LOT of work to be done on that vehicle...

I'm seeing maybe 2, if you have your heart set on a 68 Charger that needs everything.

Purchase price on something like that will really be meaningless. Whether it's 1 or 5 k..... it still needs 20 + to complete right, and a year or two of every free minute you have.

I think, more than purchase price... would be the question of do you really want that? If you really have to have it, I'd start at 2. If he is any where over 5 - 6 he's dreaming. I see that car in the 2 - 4 range, 4 being pushing it to someone that really has to have that car for some reason.

That looks to be a Charger SE trim with a 383. Offer them no more than $5k. My friend just bought a 1969 Coronet 440 trim (comparable to a Chagrer SE trim) w/383 all original, 80k original one owner miles, for $5k

Definitely no higher than $5,000, start off at $3,000.

I'd try 2500-3000 here. The trouble is you'll occasionally run into people who think that just because it's a muscle car it's automatically worth a ton. There's a LOT of work to be done here, and when you're haggling make sure you mention that you plan on doing a lot of work, so you need it for a low price.

If its a Canadian tire, is rust an issue on this car? Did you see underneath the car to check for corrosion? Also I see a 2" disconnected hose/harness of some sort.

I met the person he has 7 other cars for sale all mopars and i have no idea why the 2" hose was disconnected but he said fixing that should stop the car from dying. I did look underneath and it didn't look bad the K member was perfectly fine
