Really? How pointless

two_wheel_mayhem 10-30-2012 08:49 AM

There are no sanctioned drag racing rules that state you must have a top on your car.

It's caged, it's legal for racing.

mattsfirstSS 10-30-2012 08:53 AM

i know its perfectly fine to drag my point is i cant drive it on the street why would I want a drop top? Im going to drop top for my 9 seconds on the track?

GMTool 10-30-2012 08:53 AM

Lots of headroom with a helmet on.

mattsfirstSS 10-30-2012 08:59 AM

honestly though I would feel safer with a roof over my head on the strip...even if it is perfectly OK to drag.

Char1ieone 10-30-2012 09:08 AM

I will bet anybody my Camaro that Rick Hendrix will be the winning bidder :/

radz28 10-30-2012 09:09 AM

I didn't see that one coming, lol.

Because GM has realized just how much of a cash cow this platform is... It doesn't even have to make sense and people will step all over each other to own one... It's like the Apple i-Anything of the car world.

I guess I never thought about feeling safe, it's for the daredevil I guess.

I ride motorcycles. Do I feel safe when I'm riding them...yes? Will I get hurt if I wreck, most likely?

Bodih 10-30-2012 09:53 AM

I can just hear the fabric flapping in the wind...

...for about 8 seconds!!!:sm0:

That is one awesome looking ride. I'll be there at Barrett-Jackson in January to see it go!

I thought these were mostly built for NHRA stock rules and I also thought if you run a convertible at an NHRA event that the top has to be up.

I think they will really auction the second one but the first one that GM is "keeping" will probably be stored in a nice garage that might happen to be owned by Mr.Hendricks...My thoughts ;)

c4maroboy 10-30-2012 03:14 PM

kinda stupid imo. a drag vert??

I agree with everything here.

Why did they even put a radio in there if they were just gonna mount switches to the screen?Just plain stupid. Nothing against verts but this just looks silly imo.

I don't get the complaints. This thing is awesome! Why is everyone questioning a COPO convertible. Why?.... Why not?

roorback 10-30-2012 09:07 PM

Is this car even stable enough to drive?

Doesn't make sense to have a COPO "Race" car you wouldn't race. This is a real headscratcher even for SEMA

then why put a empty shell in there? why not just make a flat panel to mount the switches too?

Maybe second.

SAABs United bought the last produced SAAB 9-3 collectively. (Last SAAB ever? We'll see.)

Naturally the cost is way less than what that monster will go for but still...

They paid roughly $35k for it. I can't find the exact number. The retail price of it was ~48k.

If I'm not allowed to link to there, please let me know or just remove the link please.

EDIT: What they did with it was that they donated it to the SAAB Museum, well technically they still own it but it's being displayed at the SAAB Museum.
