Finally got the 1LE track pack installed! My Street/Track review

:amen:
I finally got the 1LE track pack installed on my 2010 SS LS3
Okay, first impression: Did I pay all that money for nothing?
I took the car from the garage home, drove 40 miles on it since and nothing is really different at first sight, I can feel a bit more damping on bump but really nothing dramatic.
I'm getting the alignment done this afternoon and heading for the Track at 5pm. I'm hoping the difference will raise & shine there!
I look forward comparing data with you guys.

IMO the stock 1LE suspension is deceivingly compliant on the street but works well at the track. There is still some body roll and dive, but with 1LE 285 Goodyears it works very well.

Where did you order the kit from?

slick rick 08-06-2013 12:35 PM

Besides the track pack, did you have to buy anything extra to make it fit on a 2010?

gajagfan 08-06-2013 12:45 PM

I am curious what that kit cost.

+1 IMO the Goodyears are a big part of the 1LE. OP what tires are you running?

My 2011 SS had a full suspension work over with no dive, zero rear stepout, zero wheelhop, and neutral cornering but with the stock Pirellis. The 1LE with a little stepout, some wheelhop, a little understeer, and despite all that feels better planted than my '11. I feel more confident in the corners, but I have not tracked the 1LE yet.

Switching over from the modded '11 SS to the 1LE I did feel a difference. Not night and day, but noticeably better balanced.

Could it be the tires?

Okay, so back from the alignment shop and my second impression is very good. The alignment has absolutely change the car (off course). I think the front ends feels about 25% tighter than before, turns in a lot quicker and the damping does feel compliant but it gets stiffer at speeds were has the stock got softer it seems.

I got onto 180 degrees highway ramp at about 55 mph and the front was not even close to understeer but it was too much for the Stability control, it put the front brakes to slow down the car. Something that didn't happen before. I've put it in Comp mode to avoid the intrusion of the system since I think it's now way to secure for the 1LE setup on the 2010 SS. I guess they've changed the configuration of the ECM on the 2013 1LE since no one made that remark before.

I got a relatively ''Aggressive'' alignment for Street & Track.
I've used the FE6 setup but double de front negative camber only.
Front Camber: -1.66
Front Toe Total: -0.2
Rear Camber: -0.78
Rear Toe Total : -0.2

No. except one minor detail, you need to open up the 10mm hole to attach the 12mm front sway bar link bolt.

Humm, maybe, I've run the Pirelli'S to the bare rubber on my square setup 275/40R20 with about 9 track days and I have to admit there were good, well balanced tire. I could get them to perfrom with only 32-33 psi hot.
This year I have the Nitto NT05 275/40R20 x4 and track the car 5 times. They are more sticky and needs to run at a higher temp about 38 to 40 psi hot. Otherwise the sidewall ''collapse'' on hard braking and get the feeling you' in the Flinstone Rolling with 4 square tires!! lol

Data wise they both hit 1.04G lateral on my stock SS suspension

Many GM parts store sells them, between $1000 to $1500 plus installation ($300) plus alignment ($114)

Well, not so much. I was only able to get 5 laps. There was a crash in my first session out. It took 2 hours to clear the track. By then it was dark and went home.

I will take the time to write my review tomorrow but let me tell you this, It's not the same car anymore, I' ve pulled a 1.15g lateral.
