Texas Camaro5.com Chapter?

So....as we continue to get closer and closer to the day we can make the highly anticipated trip to the dealer to pick up our gorgeous new Camaro, I was wondering if now is the time to start pitching a TX-specific sub-group on the Camaro5 forum. Since I'm currently driving my corporate-prick car (I still can say that I've never owned a non-Chevy, cuz I lease it), I've been somewhat active over at G35Driver.com. Although the site didn't have any region groups, we used the power of numbers, local dealer sponsorships, etc. to really build out a great sub-site community. We meet every other week at least, we have dealer sponsorships, our own moderators, President of our chapter, etc. We even have members that pay for premier membership which comes with a few nice to haves such as a chapter version of the forum's window sticker.

Anyone interested in such a group?

Count me in....

I'd be interested in what you had to say. If I'm correct, I believe Tran does not believe in paid memberships...meaning if it's a Camaro5 chapter, you might want to discuss that with him first before charging anything.

A get together sounds great for those in your area...Dallas is just a bit too far for me (was a member of TFBA, but can't ever DO anything since I'm way down in SA). But, dealer incentives and whatnot would sound great!

In order to have sub-chapters, we would ABSOLUTELY have to have forum admins, such as Tran and the rest of the "owners" of the forum, involved. As far as charging, etc. we've usually charged the sponsors for creating window decals, etc. and had them available for purchase to forum/chapter members to support forum overhead such as hosting. It is definitely a non-profit thing.

snsdiver72 05-12-2009 05:58 AM

Im in for sure. Im on the north west side of Houston, so that would be cool so far it seems we have the west, south, central, north and now me in the east. So yeah this would be cool.. Mlee is in the same town as me and he just said yes too. Hey Mlee the tire shop across from the hooters in shenandoah has old car week and mustang week once a month so we could invade that too.

TXInfernoSS 05-12-2009 07:37 AM

Dang- we're practically neighbors!

Brangeta 05-12-2009 12:00 PM

I think we need to get more specific here, so anybody who has been pretty general about their location, let's get more specific than just "north Dallas" and such, because sometimes even Plano is called north Dallas.

I'm in Dallas near Love Field, just outside Highland/University Park. :)

Nexus6 05-12-2009 12:07 PM

When we receive our cars we should get together. Start a local chapter. :bellyroll:

Hahha... yeah, I am not sure we'll have enough driving around Roanoke/Trophy Club to get hyper local... but definitely a part of the D/FW Chapter being discussed!

DFWSS 05-17-2009 02:37 PM

Classic in Grapevine had some interest in helping us out too. I've PM'd Tran a few times, and haven't received a response. We might not be able to actually use Camaro5, but we sure as hell can start up meets, etc.

I suggest we setup a montly meet. Maybe every 2nd weekend of the month? Like last time, we have to start somewhere. We'll throw out some ideas for meet spots, and once we get some meets with attendance, we can start moving around more. Until we get really going, I suggest the same spot we meet in mid-April.....Lake Grapevine. It's middle ground for those in FW area, and is a great spot overlooking the lake.

There are a few other places in Dallas and Plano that are car meet friendly. I figure once we get an average of 10+ per meet, we'll have more opportunities to develop meeting spots, dealer discounts, etc.

If everyone is good with the 2nd weekend every month, then Saturday, 6/13 would be the next meet. Give me a couple votes, and I'll start another thread for attendees, supplies, etc.

P.S. I just setup a new social group @ http://www.camaro5.com/forums/group.php?groupid=30

Number_9 05-17-2009 03:02 PM

Just submitted my join request. Cool! Looking forward to regular meets, however if I do have my car in time, the 6/13 date will be one I'll have to miss. Son and I are taking a 3,025 road trip through nine states in seven days, returning sometime that night. Of course, we'd make the next one!

Then again, if I don't have the car yet then we'll be postponing the trip and likely available for the 6/13 meet.

Brangeta 05-17-2009 03:24 PM

You might email Classic and see if they would be interested in being a part of the meetings/events. They might sponsor a few things, pay for a few things, or provide some meeting space for the group in exchange for getting to bring new Camaros there and hopefully get buyers.

Lamborghini Dallas, Boardwalk Ferrari, and RUF do things like that for the local exotic car owners pretty often.

I've had a few conversations with them, and they were working on a maintenance discount. One of my other clubs have a local dealership sponsor them for mod meets, window decals, license plate frames, etc. We'd have to get Tran's permission if it was anything related to Camaro5.

More PM's to Tran would help, so I'm not the only one asking for us.

DFWSS 05-17-2009 03:36 PM

I invited most near DFW to a social group I just created. If I missed anyone, sign up.

Brangeta 05-17-2009 03:49 PM

If those pics I just added to the group don't blow your mind, then you aren't living!!!!!

They are sweet. How did you get those?!?! You and Scott with a converible!

Brangeta 05-17-2009 04:13 PM

That's the convertible concept! I think it was at the 2006 Dallas Auto Show, or maybe it was the 2007! :D Let me tell you, that was a memory I won't forget! My hands were tingling on the aluminum shifter! Too exciting!
