Driveshaft length auto vs manual?

1 Attachment(s)
Are the driveshafts for the autos longer? I'm putting a ZL1 diff in my SS. Bought a driveshaft from a salvage yard that is supposed to be from a manual ZL1 MG9 code. It's quite a bit longer than my stock one and doesn't properly match up the the transmission flange. I do have the proper flange to do the swap. Only difference in it seems to be the size of the holes. Attachment 688275

Yes I believe the shaft for the auto is longer then the manual.

Thanks. I'm guessing they sent the wrong one. Label attached shows it's the right one. Jeez.

Yes as you see there is a difference,im not sure what they charged you for a stock shaft but we can make a 1pc shaft that fits your SS tranny and the zl1 diff You could get your money back on the factory shaft and skip the issues with the rubber and non serviceable bearing as well as a refund on the yoke. If we can help you out give us a call.

Just checked and the new bolts for the ZL1 shaft don't fit the salvage yard shaft. It's probably not even a ZL1 shaft. I'm doing this on a budget. Only paid $200 shipped. If they can't get me the right one, I've found another for about the same price.

If you have trouble getting a used ZL1 shaft, have you tried to see if a local driveline shop can put the correct yoke on your current shaft to match up to the ZL1 rear? Of course, then you need a ZL1 donut.

I had shafts modified for my 2500HD when I put the ZF6 in and it was around $500 out the door for both including 4 new Spicer u-joints.

Are the bolt holes in the same position on the ZL1 yoke just bigger. If so, can they be drilled and tapped for the larger bolts?

Sorry to step in on your post but I have close to the same question. I have a 4l80 with stock SS rear. If I buy the ZL1 3.73 rear will my drive shaft work?

I need some help and would really appreciate any input. I recently put in a 2013 zl1 differential in my 2014 manual Camaro SS. However, I got it out of an automatic. (though I got the entire thing for 1400 including axles and driveshaft). I did not realize that the driveshaft is longer in the automatics. I am So, I am looking into shortening the drive shaft but I don't know how much I need to tell them to shorten it.

Driveshaft shop will have all the measurements. Better yet just buy a 1 piece from them

Seems odd an auto trans would be SHORTER than a manual but I'm not sure. And I'm in the driveshaft business. Fortunately, we don't sell or see the need for too many replacements on Camaros.

I have the zl1 6L90 shaft but I heard that the 6L80 is a different length.
