Getting whippled!

Just after finishing my jre rough idle cam install, it has come up that I'm getting a whipple supercharger:). I previously had an estimate from Ted on a street brawler package but at the time I only had cash flow for the cam kit. Well yesterday I chatted with Ted and ordered the rest of the items off the estimate. He figures with the 91 oct I should get to around 630-650 rwhp.
I'm so stoked, can't wait for it to come in and get to install it.

I would say that's a good estimate. Mine made 656 with a similar combination. The wait sucks, but your going to love it.

Congrats! That's on my list for next year.

Caswell239 02-08-2013 08:24 PM

Over this winter I did:
Jre rough idle with valve train upgrades
Oem 3.91s with jre posi mod
Catch can
Kooks 1-7/8 long tubes with 3" xpipe, no cats out to kooks mufflers
Bmr diff bushings,
Finally installed front sway bar (have a pfadt stage 3 kit. I installed last year)
Now the whipple and supporting fuel mods :) be a different machine!

mhoskins76 02-08-2013 09:01 PM

Well then........I am definitely going to have to meet up with ya and check out your BEAST this spring!

Nice! The 3:91's alone will wake these babies up! Nice torque!

Not sure if Davenport will touch it, being JRE sold it????:iono:

Caswell239 02-09-2013 10:26 PM

That would be bad business if davenport turned away tuning business just because some one else sold it.
They should just be happy they have business coming in.

I don't see why Davenport wouldn't tune the car. Like you said it should not matter on whom you bought the parts from if you are paying them for the tuning.

Hey caswell I'm sure they would tune it for u and did you see my latest project?

fshog is right. We tried working with Ted when Davenport put in my new motor and Ted had built my transmission. There were problems with Davenport using hp tuners and Ted using SCT. The two shops worked very well and very hard together but the tuning language barrier between softwares was tough to overcome.

I would say if you bought the parts from Ted and installed them your best to go with his remote tune. (You know it will be good)...

If you want a dyno number, try to get in on one of those dyno days that get set up around the province every once in a while.

Caswell239 02-19-2013 05:02 PM

well everything should be here tomorrow and i can not wait!. i downloaded and printed the instructions to the LPE dual fuel pump install while at work to preread what needed to be done haha. so today i went out and removed the fuel tank to make it ready for lpe installl. I also removed the front bumper again, to allow install of the rad for the blower. i cancel my OT at work tomorrow so i can be home when it gets here and will start install asap! now my only thoughts are on the clutch. i have stock right now, and will only be at the track once this year maybe 5 runs, only got 3 in last time. and then again when i head to cfest. wonder if it will hold up or not. maybe ill jst do the camarocross at cfest.

oh and PS if your ever removing the fuel tank... just drop the rear subframe, waaay easier with it out. i had a hard enough time with just my diff out, no idea how i would have disconnect the evap vent lines with the diff in.

i will keep you all updated on this :)

LS7 427 02-19-2013 06:25 PM

Might be a good idea to go to Cfest with the stock clutch and see what the vendors there have and what other C5 guys have been happy with and make your choice from there. Sound like its gonna be a fun project. Looking forward to the updates...:)

Have you been doing all this work yourself Caswell? With all that you've done, the car must feel like a different beast already! LOL

You get that Supercharger on there...and hang on!

:burnrubber:

Caswell239 02-19-2013 07:33 PM

yes i do all the work myself, last year before i parked it all it had was a pfadt stage 3 suspension, cold air intake, a few comesmetic mods, Grill, sidemarkers, tint. but its been parked since the exhaust and cam and everything else has been done. so it will go from stock to 650rwhp haha over one winter. its in a sad state right now, diff out, rear seats and side panes out, fuel tank, wheels, exhaust driveshaft all on the floor beside it. but it will come together starting tomorrow.:) im a heavy duty mechanic by trade so this is the stuff i enjoy doing:)

dragon22 02-19-2013 07:54 PM

Nice! I am an automotive mechanic by trade, but don't actually work in the trade anymore. If I only had the money for all these mods! LOL LOL

I would be in MY glory then! Can't wait to see that beast when you get her done!

Where are you getting it tuned, or will it need one?

Caswell239 02-19-2013 09:28 PM

im getting a remote tune from ted jannetty, and all my mods are funded by the alberta oilsands:) haha

Robd 02-19-2013 09:44 PM

Take lots of pics ill be watching

Robd 02-19-2013 09:46 PM

How many psi of boost you looking to run to get 650 rwhp?

Here's the thread, http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=236622
Identical to my mod list except ill run 91 octane, Ted says on 81 we will be around 650, in that dyno run he was about 9psi till the very end it spiked up.

Many mods have been funded by the oilsands!! :happyanim:

LS7 427 02-19-2013 11:40 PM

You'll make good power with those mods but be careful of putting to much faith in a dyno done at 270 ft altitude in Waterbury compared to 3600 ft in Calgary. I'm giving up about 76 hp comparatively.

Here's a tool, it assumes a lot but gives a reasonable result. Elevation is the shits for us inlanders...haha. Would really suck to live in Denver.

hp loss = elevation x 0.03 x hp @ sea level
1000

Well it will only e in fort Mac for this summer then be back on Vancouver island for good come August.
That equation doesn't work...
Google it and found it. It's then divided by 1000. I'm only at 1200ft in fort Mac so if I used 650 as hp at sea level if lose 23 hp

Is there a track on the island or would Mission be the closest. I'd really like to get to Mission, pretty sure I could run a 9.xx out there.

You'll love the supercharger if you've never had one before, they make crazy power in these cars. The first time you get on the throttle is unreal.

Sure it does. Ft. Mac is only 1200 ft, not near as bad

1200-270 = 930

(930 X 0.03 X 650)/1000 = 18.1hp

So where up here do you work?

Caswell239 02-20-2013 12:19 PM

HET at suncor... you?

mhoskins76 02-20-2013 12:35 PM

8-3 Coker at Syncrude. Panel Operator. Hence why I am on the computer so much. LOL

Caswell239 02-20-2013 12:51 PM

haha nice!

LS7 427 02-20-2013 04:49 PM

I did time in Ft. Mac about 28 years ago. There was two or three busses a day going to Syncrude and the town as I recall was about 4000 people. Used to drink in a pub called the Oil can, sat with your back to the wall. I worked AOSTRA and for Petro Canada back then. It's now been 38 years in the industry and I've got about 5 left in me but I agree the oil patch has payed for and continues to pay for many mods...lol.

oil can was recently shut down, and the city is tearing it down soon. they say there's around 80000 permanent and about 120,000 including commuters. but unfortunately the biggest drawback is the infrastructure is set up for about 40,000 people. im trying to get all my expensive mods done now and paid for before i move to BC permanently.

heres another photo of some work i did today getting it ready for the supercharger:) also bought a little drill driven transfer pump i used to suck the tank out, seeing as i dropped it half full of fuel. just put it in a Jerry can to make it easier to reinstall.
