Importing car from overseas

I have a friend who wants to bring her 2009 Mercedes Benz E300 from Shanghai, China to California. It uses 97 octane over there but California only has 91. I know that California also has strict smog and emissions requirements. Is it possible to bring her car over to California?

It would be easier for to sell her car, then buy another one here. I doubt Cali would let her import her car. They don't even like you to bring a car in from another state.

Well maybe its the same thing as US-Europe octane measurement
95 in US is considered 100 in europe even thought its the same octane actually
so they dont actually match up. Maybe its the same issue.
Google it for matchings

probably be easier to sell. it's not just the fuel. as others have said, you'll have entirely different requirements for emissions, and even stuff like the glass and safety feature may not be up to what's required in the US.

I agree. Shes better off selling it. It's going to cost a lot just to make it legal in the US, not to mention Cali.
