Question about MY LINK

Does the MY LINK 7" touch screen system still allow you to get driving directions? I know there are two options: MY LINK 7" touch screen & MY LINK w/navigation.

you have to use onstar with the regular mylink unit. I have not actaully seen the nav unit in person yet. know they started shipping though.

Can we add the navigation to our cars since we already have the touch screen. In other words can we order the nav from the parts department and install easily and have nav?

dpslugger12 10-11-2012 06:36 PM

From what I have read and understand, No you cannot order it and install it.

justindewoody 10-11-2012 07:39 PM

No. You cannot add it. But I just went to a Chevy training event today. There will be an app called Brinngo that you can download to your MyLink. You pay $50 for it...one time fee. Go to your local Chevy store Service department. They update the software on MyLink in your car and then you have this app called Brinngo on your radio. The app is a Navigation app. It effectively makes your MyLink a MyLink with Navigation. This is coming out VERY soon. It's a HELL of a deal.

It is weird that they would not have made it upgradable

mikebutry 10-11-2012 07:54 PM

I went through all the loops and dealers to try and get my Mylink updated with the NAV. It all boils down to it the two units being completely different wiring. You would think a simple software/firmware upgrade would do the trick =/

@Justindewoody, this Brinngo you speak of. Any more info?

Banging us for every penny I guess. I know with my Chevy LTZ truck, I can use the navigation without going through On-Star.
Brinngo is a lot cheaper than doing the factory MY LINK w/navi though. Wonder how well it works.

Must be something similiar to this.

Any update date on when Brinngo is available for installation..

Any GM rep around to fill us in on the Brinngo app? If not that app, how can we install the navigation on our cars? I really thought I was getting Navi with my car....other than On-Star which is too damn expensive.

I understand the MyLink system gives you directions through Onstar but when my Onstar expires I want Navigation and I'm trying to find out how or what is available to do this.....unless you are paying for my OnStar contract renewal.

The Mylink with Nav system doesn't require Onstar for turn by turn. i have it in my Z. Btw the fact that the MYlink systems with and without Nav are different is not uncommon. I had the same issue in my BMW. The two systems looked identical but you could not add Nav to the unit after the fact.
