How to identify mufflers
I'm looking to bring my car back to stock and was looking for a set of stock mufflers. I dropped by a muffler shop and he had 4-5 sets, but i couldn't tell which ones were the for a V6.
From my understanding, there are three different types - V6, LS3, and L99. Does anyone know how to identify the differences? Some had tips, but they've been removed. I know the regular piping on the V6 is 2.25 after the H pipe, but i'm not sure if it goes back to 2.5 at the muffler inlet or if it stays 2.25 all the way back. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks |
If you have trouble finding an appropriate set, I just had mine removed last week and am looking to sell them. This isn't the sub-forum to discuss this in, so PM me if you're interested.

I'm 90% sure it's 2.25 all the way. The V8s are 2.5. I'm not sure if there's any part numbers on the mufflers themselves. Post in your local subforum. Most people just junk them and I'm sure would be happy to let you have them for free.

Mine went to the recyclers too.

Thanks guys, i'm going to rummage though his pile and see if I can find a set with a 2.25 inlet. I recall only seeing 2.5s, which made me question if it went from 2.25 to 2.5 somewhere in the back. Thanks again!

The 2.25 redux is only from the H pipe to the resonator.
also the tips on the v6 are smaller in diameter that the v8s. see this thread... http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87289 |
