Importing from another State

I've found several cars I'm interested in located in other States. Is the SS 50 state emissions legal? Or do I have to buy from California? I live in San Diego.
Thanks

Every car manufactuer adopted CA smog rules, almost everything is 50 state, including the camaro. The state you purchase from will give you a temp tag and most insurance companies cover your purchase for the first month check with them. Then you will have to register in Cali within 10 days. At that time they will inspect the car and you will pay sales tax.

I just talked to a DMV rep over the phone. She said I couldnt buy a brand new out of state car and bring it to California. Even if it was 50 state emissions legal. That it had to have more than 7500 miles on it.
That doesnt sound right. I've gotta do some more checking.

Any vehicle with less than 7500 miles is considered "new" by CA DMV. If you purchase a new vehicle outside of CA and you are a resident of CA the vehicle must meet CA/50-State emission requirements.

I've "heard" what the DMV rep stated, but their own website does not seem to state you cannot bring it into CA.

Here's the CA DMV website page that talks about this topic: Before Buying a Vehicle From Out of State
