High flow cats pass emissions

Will high flow cats pass an emission tests? The ones I am looking at (Solo) are not CARB certified. I am in WA state but we have the same emission laws as CA.

kobSS 05-30-2013 10:31 PM

As far as I've heard, the only ones that will most likely pass are the Kooks Green Cats

13FastBlkSS 05-30-2013 11:27 PM

I used to have a Magnaflow high flow cat on my old firebird and it passed inspection.. but I believe if there is no CARB sticker it probably won't pass..

2010SSRSM6 05-31-2013 06:19 AM

No CARB #, no pass.

If ur lucky u might get a lazy tech n just stair at ur camaro the hole time he might nt even look for any E.O numbers cuz ima a smog tech and there r techs out there that don't now what there looking at/for most of the time so ask around smog places n see how old these smog techs , younger techs won't now they'll just get ur car in and out

SPCBA 05-31-2013 10:48 AM

No aftermarket cats have a carb sticker.

Team STILLEN 05-31-2013 01:38 PM

Exactly what everyone said...No Carb #/Sticker, you will not pass!

I didn't see a CARB sticker on my OEM cats either. How would a smog tech know the difference between a hi flow and OEM setup?

caper 06-03-2013 12:28 AM

oem cats = 2 per side. HF cats = 1

GunnyG 06-03-2013 09:36 AM

I thought as of January there was no more sniffer?...:iono: Just an OBD reading.

Right, but how would they know that? Maybe its in a database when they look up the car?

GunnyG 06-03-2013 01:10 PM

Just read the "new" visual inspection criteria...cats must be in original configuration with the same number as OE unless CARB approved. High-flows = no goes!

JewelSS 06-03-2013 01:15 PM

You should be good for a few years and by then it depends on the place you go but definitely ask around before you go to a random shop. Most shops if busy wont take the time look unless your running Longtubes and no mufflers, to obvious....

jag107 06-03-2013 08:58 PM

Can you fail with no mufflers? Do mufflers affect the emissions in any way?

No. Mufflers don't affect emissions.

That's what I thought. So it just looks "obvious" that you're up to something if you pull in for a test without them? Well, I guess I'll find out in a little less than 3 years!

Most places probably won't even care to be honest. As long as the car doesn't throw any codes you're good to go.

jag107 06-03-2013 11:05 PM

I figure, now that we're no-sniff, OBD and visual check now, I pull in sans codes, they look and see that I have cats and o2 sensors plugged in, and a sticker under the hood with the CARB # for the shorties, they wouldn't delve to deeply into it.

Actually it is a noise Db restriction of not more than 80db. Which with no mufflers you would most likely fail.

not going to argue but technically you have to have some sort of muffler as well as be below a certain decibel level.

Yeah, Donnie was in Long Beach and they had a DB machine on the street, like the ones showing your speed and said he was at 92 and would get a ticket in the mail!

Doesn't sound right. Those roadside smog tests are supposed to be just data captures for how well smog is working. Not as a ticket/punishment/fine type of thing. I'd fight it if I were him...but hell, I fight everything! LoL

These are supposed to be "manned" stations. Since the sensor isn't 1 meter from the source and it doesn't know the RPM that the car was running at it won't be accurate.

The 94dB reading is at 50% of redline measured at 1 meter from the rear of the car. At WOT I'm at 121dB. :dizzy:

SPCBA 06-04-2013 06:45 PM

haha 121 is loud. i am pretty loud but jeez. also how do they know your redline? mine is well above stock

i have been asked to rev to 3 grand before by a sherriff...i just did a quick 2 ish
