Roof Ditch Molding

How expensive/hard would it be to have the roof ditch molding painted professionally (to look factory), if can even be done? Thanks.

not sure whatyou meanby painted to factory?

jrpxxii 10-15-2009 09:43 AM

I'm sure he means to match the paint as the factory RS cars do with the moldings. I would imagine that this would be very simple do for a qualified painter.

The thing to remember though that is rubber/something like it. It will expand and contract and keeping the paint sticking will not be easy. You may have cracking down the years. Someone needs to make them molded in the cars colors and not just painted.

I am checking with gmpartsdirect.com if there is a part # for the roof ditch molding in factory colors - I'll post what they say...

Update - here's what http://www.gmpartsdirect.com customer service said:

"GM Part #92225861 Roof panel joint finish molding; 2 per vehicle. Item callout number 17 in the accompanying illustration. This is for cars with the Rally Sport (RPO WRS) option. GM Part #92217614 is for cars without the RS Package. Neither mention anything about colors. These are the only roof panel joint moldings used on the 2010 Camaro"

Both Part #s are List Price is $34.69 each / Discount price is $21.29 each.

As the they look-up by VIN #, and I have an RS, and I assume as the VIN doesn't have the color as part of that code then this is probably the black roof ditch molding pre-painted even though its for an RS as there was no color mentioned per customer service If so then you're back to having it painted at a body shop. Given how inexpensive the part is perhaps its best to order 2 to take to a shop then swamp out the originals... just a thought.

You can order the actual molding from GM in the color you want. The only thing you need is a VIN from a car of your same color with the RS package.

gmpartdirect indicated there was no color choice on the part #s they gave me in my post below yours. The VIN has no color designator unless the VIN provides a link to the car's color somehow.

I'd contact Dave in Parts at CamaroScotty's Newman Chevy to see what he says - dhiller@north2newman.com

All you have to do is go to the link on this site where you track registered VIN numbers and find one that is the color of your car that has the RS option and take that VIN to your local dealer and order the moldings and they will come in the color of the registered VIN. What color are you needing and I will get you the part number with your specific color.

Correct, though color is not a part of the VIN itself, the VIN is registered with everything the car has including color, so they pull the color from that as jrpxxii states.

roof ditch moulding

Has anyone been able to order a painted one.

JimE 02-24-2013 11:52 PM

They are black only. They are painted with the car.
