Dual mode exhaust on 2013 or aftermarket

I am about to purchase a 2013 camaro 2lt and noticed there is now an option for a dual mode performance exhaust in the car configurer on chevrolet's website. Is this exhaust a true performance equivalent of say a cat back system or is it simply just for sound? I don't want to add it if I am just going to replace it with another system soon after getting my car.

I have read many posts on camaro5 and am glad to be joining such a great bunch of people. Thank you so much for your help. I truly appreciate it. :D

That exhaust is only offered on the V8's.

from what I have read it opens some type of baffle @ the rear before the suitcases, but I'm not 100% that is all it is..

as I read it, it is a sound mod and I've seen a few threads complaining about the baffles rattling.

Welcome to the forum!

Actually on the chevy website, you can add it to any 1LT or 2LT camaro...

I stand corrected. It's going to be interesting to hear what that sounds like on the 6.

The Dual Mode Exhaust is my favorite option. I have no idea what it will sound like on a 6, but the 8 sounds MUCH better than the standard exhaust. The butterfly valvles in the outboard exhaust tips close during cruising RPMs (actually it is calculated on alot more than that). So, from about 1K up to 3.5K the valve is closed and forces the exhaust thru the mufflers. when it is open, it bypasses the mufflers. it will sound like straight pipes.

I'd say it is better than cat-back exhaust (if comparing it to the same size pipes), because it will completely by pass the mufflers when you get on it, but it is also very quite when cruising...

I'd be curious to see some dyno numbers on the issue though...

Thank you very much for your help. I will most certainly be adding this option to my V6. If anybody gets this option before I do please post a video of it. I have heard it on a V8 and am quite excited to see how well it sounds and performs on the 6. Thanks again for your help.

I ordered this on my 2013 2LT, can't wait to see what it sounds like...

The 2012 that I drove sounded pretty good with the stock exhaust on the lot.
Anyone know if this is an axle back or cat back system? I would assume axle back, but it gets rid of those suitcases out back...

Does it get rid of the suitcases? I hope so because those things are heavy. I also wasn't sure if the straight pipes on acceleration would sound that great. I have seen a lot of straight pipe videos and they were extremely buzzy.

That's because they are with straight pipes...

This is exactly what the Dynomax VT exhaust system does, which I and many others here at C5 have. Nice rumble at idle, running speed, but get on the gas and the valves open to a near straight thru exhaust. AND NO DRONE. Get it now for about $400 bucks or less shipped. Great system.

I stumbled across these pictures prior to ordering my car with this option...

Clearly a straight through design bypassing the muffler, and yes total elimination of the ugly suitcases.

It also changes the rear air dam a bit too :)
