'10 Nitrous Cammed LS3 Camaro vs '15 Hellion Twin Turbo 5.0
Had a interesting run with a new twin turbo 5.0. His hp is undisclosed (claims never been on the dyno) and his boost level was undisclosed as well. I've seen Hellion equipped 5.0's anywhere from high 600's up to 900's before.
Was supposed to be a 40 roll but ended up more like 45ish. Nitrous hit and it spun the rest of second until the 2-3 shift. Mustang is Auto fyi. He got about a car ahead. Nearing the middle top of 4th I started reeling him him. Video that I wont post here shows he hit the brakes the moment we got even again. I was pretty happy with the result and wish we would've done a 60 roll instead because I wouldn't have spun at the top of 2nd. Question though...shouldn't a boosted car have the advantage on the top end? I thought nitrous cars were better mainly on the low end to get the jump out and hopefully stay ahead. I really didn't expect to start gaining once up top. Was a good race either way. One of the best I've had to date. Will see if I can get with him again for another shot at it. |
Great run man.
F/I cars don't always mean top end. Could be something preventing them from pulling harder in the upper RPM's. It looks to me that unless he was running 8-10 PSI, you clearly have the faster car man. Based on the numbers, I bet it is a blast to drive! |

I imagine that car has a lot more to give but for some reason he's running it low right now. The guy who I believe still holds the 1/4 record for a stock 5.0 motor is/was running the same turbo setup before the car got totaled. His car was up in the 700's from what I remember. So this 5.0 had to be very low boost. He raced my buddy in a 1LE with very similar mods to me but a smaller shot. He is 150 and I'm 175 but the 1LE gearing keeps us very close even with me having more power. When I saw the video I had to find a way to get a run in myself. |
Good kill homie! Can't wait to get mine in.

Probably has the stock short block and is trying to keep it together with low boost.

From what I thought though, the 5.0 was a pretty solid engine and that's why most people barely touch the engine crank the boost and let it rip. Check out videos of JUIC3D and his 5.0 all stock block. |
