camar00t's 2011 2SS/RS Camaro
I've grown up to be a :chevy: fan as my Father won't drive anything else. My Uncles are also the same way and they along with my Father all have restored hot rods, etc. so I was used to being around "muscle". I've always been fond of the 68/69 Camaro and when 2010 arrived and the unveiling of the renewed body style I was sold.
I had a lease that was expiring in April 2011, and since it was nearing the end of the line for the 2011 Camaro's I was really debating on waiting for the 2012 or just trying to get a steal on a 2011  I decided to go with the steal since I was immediately going to modify the heck out of the car once I got it :D I am a HUGE NY Yankees fan and also my favorite color is blue so my ONLY option for a color was Imperial Blue Metallic. I assumed that I was going to be able to put in my order and get my custom ordered IBM 2011 2SS/RS Camaro. Well since the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan, the paint manufacturer that supplies GM with it's metallic paints basically lost all of its supply thus GM Metallic based paints were now NOT an option for ordering a new Camaro. I was heart broken and was scared because this was getting close to the cut off to the switch over to the 2012 which I didn't want. So I used the American Express car buying service and ended up going to Santa Paula Chevrolet. The Internet division looked all over for what I wanted and located only 2 cars. The ONLY one that was an option for me was up in Tracy (near Sacramento). They contacted them and made it happen. I demanded the car be trailered down because I didn't want the rock chips and/or the mileage on the car :happyanim: and they agreed which means I was happy. So long story short I was a happy new owner of a 2011 IBM 2SS/RS with Hurst Short Throw Shifter as a pkg option. Unrelated question. How do you like the Savinis? Any issues with paint or anything? |
Quote:
Yeah, you really don't want to go there with me on the Savinis. Yes, I love them to death and I wouldn't trade them for the World but these are my 2nd set and I've ONLY had the car since April 28, 2011. The first set, the paint chipped/wore off around the lugs in a few months and the carbon was peeling away. So I worked with Savini, whom was VERY professional with me and we agreed to have them make me a new set. This time, I had my painter prep them, etc. The Carbon fiber came out much better this time and I got the custom paint job I originally wanted the first time. The issue I am still having is that Savini drills the lug nut holes to damn small. Even with a perfect fit or tiny bit smaller socket if you go off center just a tad loosening or tightening them you will scuff/crack the paint. They need to drill the lug nut holes maybe a 1/4" bigger and things would be perfect. So I am stuck for the rest of my life anytime I need to remove the wheels be prepared with the touchup paint :mad0259: For the HUGE price I paid for these wheels, I don't think the craftsmanship and quality assurance is where it needs to be. That is just my opinion but I thought I would share with you my personal experience. I have lots of evidence pictures and brought the car to Savini several times to look over. Obviously wheels are NOT something you mess with every day and I had no reason to be sitting there loosening and tightening my lugs nuts, and the car is garaged so there was no foul play. |
