Ordering, Allocation, and Pricing News....Your one stop thread.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's what I know:

Ordering starts October 13th.

Allocation will be known on October 13th as well. Dealers will be getting ordering guides to assist in the process...

Prices will be made available after January 1, 2009. (I won't get into the guessing games.....)

This is NOT speculation.

This IS however, (per GM's law) *subject to change

Same here, it is sort of annoying. I mentioned the October 13 date and they had no idea what I was talking about which worries me.

SimC33 10-04-2008 06:32 PM

Do we have to put any money down on the 13th when we order seeings how we don't know any prices?

GoldFire 10-04-2008 06:37 PM

SimC33, that is what I was wondering. I assume so, but I am not sure how they would come up with a down payment amount.

Thats exactly what I was thinking....camaro scotty, you think you could possibly clarify for us if we HAVE to put some sort of down payment on the car on the 13th when we order?

Jak 10-04-2008 10:51 PM

January??? What happened to December? That was the date I'd heard. And how can you take orders on a car an not know what it costs? Or am I just freaking tired an missed something here?

the is like preordering, so GM knows that what people want so they can get production ramped up without having restrictions at launch.

when Ford launched thier new mustang with the mylites or what ever (color changing gauges) they thought like 20% of people would want them, but when orders came in 60-70% (i forgot exact number) wanted them and there ended up being a 4 month wait for people who wanted that option. it was a blackeye for the car launch and gm wants to avoid it.

camarogreg@evs 10-05-2008 11:53 AM

As the 3rd largest Corvette dealer in the U.S., EVS Chevrolet in Wisconsin deals with these questions every year. We have many customers who want to "pre-order" Corvettes in March or April for the next model year. This year for example we had dozens of orders placed before we knew pricing. It is just unfortunate how GM structures this. When you pre-order a car such as the Camaro in a couple of weeks, most dealers ask for a deposit to place the order. It is at the dealers descretion as to how much this would be. Once an order is accepted, which in the case of Camaro won't be until December or January, the dealer is obligated to that car. That is why we ask for deposits. With Camaro, the initial allocation is something you need to be cautious about. Early allocation is based on 70% Chevrolet sales and 30% Corvette sales. All Chevy dealers will get a few Camaros at first, but the larger allocations will go to larger Chevrolet dealers who have an emphasis on Corvette sales. Unfortunately, the small dealers will have a hard time getting cars in the first few allocation cycles. Basically, make sure the dealers you are working with sells a large volume of Chevrolet product along with Corvette sales. Hope this helps.

There is no solid date for the release of pricing. Like most other topics on this and other sites, there is a great deal of speculation that gets carried away, then people start acting like it is official info from GM.

The closest anyone knows at this time is pricing will be available December or January. My guess would actually be earlier in December. Preorders start October 13th followed by a period of time that allows GM to learn quantities of parts and paint needed before they start production. Preorders go to the factory late December or in January. I would expect pricing before these preorders go to production. For the orders not cancelled, assembly begins in February with shipments to dealers in late February.

I would expect pricing would be available some time after preorders but prior to orders being sent to the assembly line, allowing for any cancelled orders to be culled out.

Yes you will need to put a downpayment on the car to get one reserved! How much??? That depends on your dealer.

To everyone making the downpayment make sure you get it in WRITING that the deposit is refundable!!!!!

stovt001 10-05-2008 04:31 PM

Just a thought - although it seems weird to order a car without knowing the pricing, GM may use pre-order trends to see what is popular and what is not and then use that information to adjust pricing. We already have rough guestimations based on competing products and prices for features on other GM cars. If a feature seems to be unpopular during pre-ordering and we perceive the likely cost to be high, they might lower the real price of that feature.

srtclg1007 10-06-2008 03:34 PM

My dealer said he just found out that pricing will be released on 10/13 between 7am and 8am central time. He's not camaro scotty, but we'll see if he's right soon enough.

That's a logical assumption since that's when they will be able to order, but that's making an assumption of a large business doing things logically. :drinking:

srtclg1007 10-06-2008 05:32 PM

Yeah, Im very pessimistic about it. I hope he's right tho. Either way, he's a good MSRP or less guy. One thing that scared me tho was he said that after the tuesday after ordering, you cant change the order. And the deposit is not refundable. BUT, thats with pricing known. If I know pricing I wont need to cancel or change my order. We'll see what happens Monday...... Im not going to order blind without a refundable deposit.

If I had some spare coin to wager.....I'd be betting against what this dealer thinks.

Whatever you give your dealer for a deposit is to the dealer. Not GM. If your dealer says it's not refundable, that's his policy, NOT GM's I would get another dealer. Mine is totally refundable. I am still amazed at what people will believe on this site. Probably 90-95% of the info here is speculation that people are believing because they have a couple people no more credible than themselves agree with them.

So many of the questions I see on here are answered elswhere on this site or on the internet if people just take a little time to find it.:readthethread::readthethread:

I'm not putting everyone down on here but damn, take time to read more and realize there are very few experts on this site. There is a small handfull i believe as credible. They all work for GM at some level. A Few others may know more than some of us but the rest are just speculating. I'm glad they are not speculating on my behalf on the stock market.

Much of what I write on here is also opinion based but i'm probably older than most of you. You won't see me writing something that's a guess without saying so, If I guess, I say i'm guessing, not saying I know it as fact.

I'm just saying the answer is usally here already if you read a couple threads and sort thru the :bs:. It's a bit aggravating to see the same questions over and over. If you spend enough time on this site you will start to see who are the :bs:'ers are.

Sorry if I strike a nerve with anyone but you are probably the ones this is aimed at.
SRTCLG, this is not aimed directly at you. Yours is just the post I chose for an example. Back on thread, if you can't get your deposit back blame your dealer, not GM. Over MSRP? Dealer, not GM.

May the Mods be kind to me after my rant!

lol we all have our rants, some of ours are for good reasons, like yours, and some are just cause we are so frustrated about waiting for this car to come, like mine lol.

4thGenRocks 10-06-2008 09:36 PM

Subscribed for pricing. someone told me the base bare bone V6 with no option would be approx 22k? is this statement true?

:)

that's kinda a oxymoronic question lol^^ no offense, but speculation means it's a guess and then you asked if it's true so it's a little oxymoronic, no offense.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro Prices: They're a bit hard to predict, what with an on-sale date nearly a year away. But GM has said Camaro will be a premium car, and it won't compete with the Ford Mustang on price. Our guesstimate: The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro V6 coupe will start around $22,000 with the V8 model around $28,000. Convertibles will likely start at around $28,000 for a V6 model and range up to $35,000 for a V8.

That's a bad thing. It means you've gone from a great school to a bad school. Education differences FTL.
