Call out for all the 2010's
So I've been racking my brain looking over the net trying to find some fast Camaro's.
I see people gloating about all the power they make and what they've dyno'ed to the ground. Turbo cars single and double, ProCharged car's and cam only cars and all in between. It's great people are making all this power but what good does it do if you dont take it to a track and race it. I didnt pay 40,000 to look at it and watch it collect dust. Drive it like you stole it, what ever happened to this motto? C'mon people, take it out to the track and see what its made of. Its only going to get faster if you drive the piss out of it. I just wanted to rant, carry on. |
Waiting for my Big Box from procharger......

I always look forward to your posts, as I know you are running your car hard and it is nice to see the times you are putting up. I have only been to the strip once this year but I will be going back this coming weekend to see if I can get into the 11's on the stock rims and tires. I will then figure out what I want to do with the wheels and tires. I was thinking maybe some 20" drag radials but then maybe 18" rims & drags. Not sure yet. I love to drive it hard and can't wait to get back to the track. My goal is to get into the low 11's on DR. |
WE have entered the age of the Dyno Queen my friend...lol

LOL great posts.
I am truly amazed at the many people, shops and vendors who have stepped up and are modding their Camaros. Like the OP said we need to see more at the track. There are several threads about the GM High Tech 2010 Camaro Shootout at the NMCA Finals in Memphis. Several magazines will be there to cover some of the fastest 2010 Camaros. I wil be there with my Camaro, we will be running a GM Performance Parts LSA crate engine. Lets spread the word! 2010 Camaro Shootout at the LSX Shootout October 15th through 18th Memphis Motorsports Park Robin |
I think thats more because the Camaro is hitting a differnet market group than the 4th gens. I think its more Vette/bmw and some people who just want to have the newest car on the road, as opposed to people like us who just want to beat the $hit out of it daily.
My best is a 12.73 so far. Im getting my yank 3600 put in monday, then my resonator removed and getting it retuned. Im hoping for a very low 12. From there Id like to get Nitro Daves Money Maker put in the intake while having it ported. Im pretty sure Id be the first to do it to a 5th gen. So in two weeks or so I should have some more track times. I just wish I lived closer than 2 hours away. I would be there every week. |
my best so far is 12.57 at 115.10.* first time at track my trans broke. next time i ran a 13.01 13.00 12.57. i have really bad 60ft times. 2.4 2.25 2.01. once i learn to launch and get out of the hole I should be in the 11's will work on getting my tickets up.

What DR do you guys think are good? I am probably going to stay with the stock 20" rims and want a good DR. Should I pick up a pair of Nitto's or wait until next year and see what is out?
|
I had good results with nitto 555r's on my 4th gen. Plenty sticky.
|
Cam,CAI,Kook Headers,Stage 3 Heads(not worth the money till a better intake is available)
Nitto DR - only option for the stock wheels at this point. Being that I am not very experienced at the track I can't really comment on how good they are. I paid $570.00 installed. I'll repeat what has been posted many times on here and told to me by many people- you really need to heat them up to get them to hook up. |

A CAI and a tune alone should have you where you are now. I would get a second opinion on your tune or get someone that can launch to run it at the track for you. Your times should be hella faster. How much power was it making on the dyno? |
I know, but I'm never gonna learn if I don't do it myself.
Tune is fine, driver that needs the work. Dyno was at 470rwhp on a mustang dyno. Still trying to get time slips up. .1270 - reaction 2.0159 - 60ft 5.4779 - 3330ft 8.2611 - 1/8 et 88.74 - 1/8 mph 10.6160 - 1000' et 104.63 - 1000' mph 12.5728 - 1/4 et 115.10 - 1/4 mph |

I took a lesson from the OP and used a set of Mickey Tompson ET Street Radials on ZO6 18" front wheels. That helped my 60'. With the Nittos I was spinning through 1st,2nd and part of 3rd gear. My car also weighs over 4000 pounds with me in the car. I also have a bronze metalic clutch in the car. I slip the clutch and this deal holds up run after run. No stink like the stock rag clutch. I launched this thing at 6000 RPM and it BOGS LOL. A little slip helps get the car rolling. Good luck! Robin |
Should have gone with the smaller wheels and tires.
Anyone interested in a almost new set of Nitto DR's How much for your clutch set up? What did your best runs clock in at? |

Added the Full length headers and the short (fugly) tires and ran 12.10 at 115.3 off the juice. Then I tried a .063 jet at 100% on the controller. The car went slower ET spinning through 3 gears and ran the 125 at the stripe LOL. It was ugly. I needed to make some more passes to find out what it liked but that was the last pass for the night. We got our results so it's on to the next deal for me. Don't know the cost on the clutch. It's probably near 500 to 600 Robin |
I'm heading to strip tomorrow night. Hopefully I will continue to improve my launch and get some good numbers.
I'll be keeping a eye on your progress in Hot Rod. Feel free to update us before it on the stands though. Thanks for your input. |
TC - I would be interested in your Drag Radials if you want to get rid of them.
The best time I had at the track was a 12.6 on the stock Pirelli's with a 2.2 60'. It was humid as hell that day and the track was not prepped. I am going back to the track this Saturday and the track will be prepped and it should be cooler with less humidity. My car dynoed at 518hp and 503tq to the wheels. I have G-Teched it and it did a 12.2 at 120, so of I can get close to that on the stock tires I will be happy but I am shooting for high 11's. |
Speed,
I am checking into the cost of smaller wheels and tires over the next couple of days and will pm you by Friday if that's the direction I decide to go. Nice car by the way, I've been watching your build, looks like everything so far has turned out great. Enjoy!! |

Are you power shifting or granny style? Your run from the 8th to the 1/4 should be faster too. FYI my LT/CAI l99 8th mile trap speed was 87.7 and I ran an 8.30. From there you had 88.7 and ran an 8.26. What happens after that? Your car with over 100 more rwhp only puts 2/10ths on mine. I hope Im not coming off like a jag or anything, as I would really like to help you out. If I had one guess I would say your granny shifting. Leave the pedal to the floor through your shifts. Its kind of scary at first, but if you practice it, it will become natural when racing. |
Rodimus
To be perfectly honest with you, I have believe that it's all in the driver. I'm keeping on the gas till just before I hit my rev limiter, off the gas til after shift then back on the gas. I have only been down the track three times. I'm going tonight and hoping my times will get better with more time in the seat. If you have any suggestion (granny shifting) I'd love to give them a shot. |
to the op... i'm down for the competition. Will be getting better tires in a few weeks. Actually thinking about going to the LSX shootout. Things are going to get interesting for my camaro very soon.
|
Before you go to the track tonight, practice some power shifting....its scary at first. Once your on the gas, dont let off for shifting. But if you are going to do that be sure to practice a few times on the street so you dont mess up at the track. My guess is that you are shifting pretty slow. You really shouldnt feel the car lug during shifts.
Also I would drop a few psi out of the rear tires to hook up a little better. Its not going to affect the run down the track. |
leaving in about ten minutes, I'll let you guys know how it goes.
|
Good luck bro.

Well I did a couple practice runs power shifting before I got to the track. I must admit I had some pretty tight cheeks.
I dump the clutch for burnout before the first run and my pedal sticks to the floor. After lifting it with my foot I stage and take off. Didn't want to shift into 2nd and when I tried 3rd pedal was on the floor again. I was so pissed I just stayed on it. Clutch smoked all the way down the track.Awesome smell by the way. Let it cool down for about 45 mins, then ran by best time yet. 12.40@114.82 My clutch wasn't happy with me after my next 2 runs. Corvette guys kept telling me to slip the clutch off the line, I told them I wanted to get home. It's time for a upgrade - and more fun at the track. I'll break into 11's yet. |
Not bad times but the corvette guys are right...slip that clutch off the line and make sure you change out that fluid when you get home...i bet it's pretty dark after that.
|
I changed it right brfore I left

Nice runs TC!! I just got back from the track and I definately need some drag radials for next year. My 60' was always over 2 and traction is definately an issue. I was going to try and slip the clutch off the line but never really did it. I ended up with a 12.45 @ 117.5 mph with the stock tires. It was a test and tune tonight, so no track prep either. First run, someone about lost it and got close to hitting the guard rail. Time for some drag radials!!!

We've exchanged PM's on Tech, so you know I'm working on mine. I'm not disclosing too much about my car at this time because I have some races coming up, but don't worry, I'll be putting up some time slips before the Shootout and I'm sure I'll see you there. I'm also still waiting on my 18" wheels with 315 DR's to show up so I can do better than the 20's with 305 Nitto's on them. I gotta get the gear ratio down, so I'm going with 26.6" tires. Hopefully our cars will be pretty evenly matched by the time the Shootout rolls around. ;) LMR's Procharged 427 LSx blocked car should be an evil one. I'll just be satisfied to make the Quick 8 5th gens from the Street Shoutout. ;)

Well, I can't get my car to hook for anything, I need to practice more (I have been)...my one trip to the track, I had bad 60' times, like 2.2 or 2.1, best run was 12.3 @116 mph....I am now working with my tire set up and some suspension work to make it right. I went on a Wednesday (9/2/09) for a test and tune and the track was not in good shape either.
I purchased this car and dropped additional $$$ into it not just to claim hp numbers, but to take it to the track as many times as I can. I will be going to the lsx shootout, so I'll be happy to see everyone there with their 5th gens. EDIT: Any advise or help with the tire setup would be appreciated. |
It warms my heart to hear guys are taking their modded cars to the track.
I have a set of bushings for the rear cradle and diff center section. Way too much squish and movement in my opinion. The Mickeys on the 18" wheels really helped the effective gear ratio. I have a set of 6 cylinder springs ordered and hope to get them in my hands for some testing. If Afco would make some trick shocks like they make for the GTO I think it would also help. I have run as fast as 125.33 in the quarter. That was at 4050 pounds. I can't get the think to not spin through the first 3 gears. Looking forward to meeting everyone at the LSX shootout. Robin |
On a slower pass prior to the 10.96 I went 129.XX, I only had a 1.80 60ft vs the 1.6X on the 10 second pass. I hope to run 134/136 now.
