Craftsman Aluminum Floor Jack=Garbage

I was just lifting my camaro up to put the catback on when my $200 4 year old craftsman 4000lbs Aluminum Floor jack blew a seal and slowly lowered the car. I went online to find a rebuild kit and found over 140 reviews about the same thing happening to others.
I use the thing a couple times a year, kinda thought it would last for that kind of money. No help from Sears or Craftsman. So much for a quality product from a reputable company.
Buyer Beware on that thing.

So solly Chinese jack did not last. Be glad you were not under it.

Where do you buy a quality non-chinese jack these days that isn't a down payment on a camaro?

I have one I got from my grandfather over 15 years ago. It just weighs a hundred pounds. Kinda thought craftsman was decent compared to Harbour Freight. Guess not

My floor jack crapped out a few months ago (after about 20 years) and I have been casually looking around. Costco has a 4 ton jack...I'm not sure who makes it but my thought is Costco is very good about returning any merchandise bought from them. I think the price was about $120.

I've had my 7 1/2 ton Craftsman steel floor jack for probably 10 or so years now. It weighs a metric ton but it's a beast. Never had any issues with it. Sad to see that stuff just isn't made like it used to be. No quality anymore. :(

Funny you say that. I called sears and the store manager told me I should be happy that I got 4 years out of it. I flipped out and he hung up on me. But I am in line at Costco right now with a $90 3.5 ton lift because I want to mod my camaro!!!

One would think yes , since you are going to lift one corner at the time , total weight ~4000 lb so .

You would think that a 2.5 ton (5000 pound) jack should be fine to lift the rear half of a 2 ton (4000) pound car. But after today, I have my doubts. Jack stands and ramps will be under the car.

I really hope no one here is dumb enough to get under a car with only a jack.

Several people die every year doing just that.
