Centrifugal Supercharger vs Turbo vs Traditional Supercharger

I understand how traditional superchargers work...I understand how turbos work...I'm a little confused on why a procharged is still considered a supercharger...doesn't it work almost exactly like a turbo??

Superchargers work off intake while turbos work off exhaust.

Superchargers are belt driven compressors. A procharger is just a brand, that uses a centrifugal style compressor. Just like a vortech, paxton, etc. Turbos have two wheels and are driven off exhaust gases and use wastegates to control pressure while superchargers use pulley size the control boost pressure (in most cases).

Superchargers are driven by belts or gears. Turbos are driven by exhaust gases leaving the engine.
Help?

So if you don't want to change your exhaust system that you paid BIG bucks for...Supercharge is the way to go I think. I'll decide in another 2 years to see what I'll do.

I understand but I'm still a little confused on centrifugal superchargers

Can you explain what you are still confused about so we can explain it to you a little more?

All of the above posts have been pretty clear.

Thanks

Centrifugal supercharger "look" like turbos but have a belt compressor behind it...

Hope this helps?

A centrifugal supercharger is essentially a belt driven turbocharger. A belt driven by the motor powers the blower. Turbochargers use the exhaust gasses produced by the motor to power the blower. Very similar blowers....just a different drive to power the blower.

Superchargers are mechanically driven off the crankshaft. That applies to all SC's regardless of make, model or design.

Turbochargers are not. Simple as that really.

ok i think i got it......

stevieturbo 08-05-2013 03:47 AM

And if that fails....they both work by magic.
