I think there is a 300lb or so difference between the stock Camaro and Mustang. But as I have heard, you cannot put enough bracing on the Mustang. There is quite a bit of weight added to the Mustang in bracketry and bracing to fix their sins. So I do not think their is as much weight advantage as initially discussed. But I will repeat, I believe the Camaro has at least a .3 second advantage over the Mustang.
Time will tell once everything is posted

Not the video you all have been waiting for but I like it. Pedders, V8 Supercars Racing, Supercar Coilover details and the Best that Holden and Chevy build...

In fairness to the small minority of Mustang on this site we are posting the Mustang in car video first.

One of the reasons we test and run our track events at Gingerman is because I consider it to be a very safe track. Safety is a relative terms. I am very sad to report that there was a fatality at Gingerman this evening. I cannot tell you how many times I have run at the test and tune without incident. This is all we know at this time.

SOUTH HAVEN — A 73-year-old man from the Detroit area was killed early Tuesday night in crash at Gingerman Raceway, Michigan State Police in Paw Paw said.

William Christie Rowe, of Milford, was driving a 1990 Ford Mustang when the car hit a barrier, Sgt. Tom Brower said. Rowe was alone in the car and no vehicles were involved in the crash.

Police are awaiting results of an autopsy to determine whether Rowe died from crash injuries or if he had a medical problem while driving, Brower said.

Police were continuing the investigation and no further details on the crash were available late Tuesday night.

Gingerman Raceway is 2.21-mile paved road course located on Phoenix Road just east of South Haven. The track is open to drivers for “Test and Tune” nights on Tuesdays, according to its website.

There have been other fatalities at Gingerman and there will be more in the future. Please take a moment to say a prayer for the driver and those he left behind.

Guys like Pual Tracy, Chris Brannon, Stan Wilson and John Buttermore make going fast around a track look easy. It isn't. They are skilled professionals and even that carries no guarantee for driver safety. The news tonight is a lesson to all of us to always put safety first. Prepare your car before you take it on the track. prepare yourself before you head out to the track Drive within your limits and understand the risks that driving fast, no matter how good your are, no matter how good your car, driving at race track speeds is a matter of life and death.

I love driving fast in a corner. I love going to the track. There isn't anything I don't love about fast cars expect the price that is paid when something goes wrong. We do a life and death inspection of each car before each track event. I can promise you the next life and death inspection will take a bit longer to complete.

Sobering moment... May God's grace rest on loved ones he left behind.

Here are the newest videos from the Supercar Shootout.

Camaro

Mustang

The Camaro video was logged with the track data. The Mustang video was logged in multiple cameras. We will have a Mustang video with the running data overlay soon.

John's driving was obscenely good. The difference between his fastest lap and theoretical perfect lap on the Mustang was 3/100 of a second and 3/10 of a second in the Camaro. In terms of driving excellence, John was virtually perfect.

In these videos you can see the differences between the Mustang and the Camaro. The Mustang is loose in the rear and late to put down power in the turns. The Mustang out braked and out accelerated the Camaro.

The Camaro brake bias was off due to my rear pad selection. Even with that handicap, the Camaro was formidable on track. The Camaro had faster entrance and exit speeds because of the ability of the IRS to keep the car under control.

John hold steady state high G turns. You can see in the side camera video just how hard he was running the Mustang. We'll get a Camaro video with the side shots up too. As excellent as John is behind the wheel, he couldn't be this consistent unless the cars were incredibly stable and predictable. John and the cars put on an incredible show.

It was that close.

Mr Twisty 08-27-2010 08:51 PM

From my best guesstimate looks like both cars are in pretty exotic company!

lil_red_v6 08-27-2010 09:46 PM

why do we have another thread about this, its car vs car.

JusticePete 08-27-2010 10:23 PM

So we can have a winner?

Mr Twisty 08-28-2010 08:59 AM

.... and the winner is???

Hesh 08-28-2010 09:55 AM

Wow very close indeed. By pausing the video so you could see where exactly the times are on the laps you can figure out who one. Ill let anyone else who wants to do the math figure it out. Those track times are screamin!!!

Might hafta make a 3rd off-shoot in the "stupid mustangs" thread (or whatever they call it) out of respect for the other car in the race... not too shabby for a ford :respekt:

meanmike 08-28-2010 12:16 PM

So who won?
