There is something to be said about having a "sleeper" car.

Let's face it. Most people look at a Camaro (or in my case Challenger) and see this bad ass machine that looks like it should kill other cars in a drag race or around the streets. But the problem is that the common person doesn't appreciate the weight factor nor the other suspension factors...let alone individual driving abilities of those that own them. And so, our cars can be a "let down" for some expecting more.

Fact is, we own awesome machines for the price points both on the street, and on the strip. We won't win awards for twisty road course track runs though. We simply aren't engineered/designed for it. Buy another car if that's where your enjoyment lies. I think that t.v. show has to keep coming up with ideas/topics and that head to head was just a fun demonstration/exhibition.

It's all relative.

But still, it couldn't hurt to want more ;)

My dad used to own a 2009 6-Speed Challenger SRT-8. Ya the car was fast with a lot of torque, but the Camaro IS faster and handles much better.
Not to say the challenger wasn't BADA$$

Doesn't he think both of these cars would go around the track better if IT WASN'T RAINING??!!:chevy:

Its the automatic and probably the cars are rated slightly different in the UK.

LOL. Tiff Needell is one of the great drivers.

The fact remains that the Camaro SS understeers and the '10 Chally handles like patio furniture.

Odd that they went with the L99 insterad of LS3. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

My Camaro handles pretty well... not many stock suspension parts left on it, though. My Challenger handles terrible... suspension is all stock.

Thanks! Cool video!

I haven't had the oppertunity to drive either yet, however I have ridden in both (saving my first drive for my own SS in a few months...) but I find it very hard to believe that bulky huge Dodge is only. 7 of a second behind the SS... I think a better driver may be in order... not buyin it!

Phantom.5SS 11-28-2010 02:19 PM

He's trying to drive it like a BMW or Bathhurst.

Drive it like a Camaro.......its not a bucking Bronco rodeo ride Dopey, its a kick your a$$ run with the bulls!!! I treat mine heavy handed and with brute force, not like a ballerina Tanner Faust racer on TV.
Seems to get around Watkins Glenn and Lime Rock just fine!!

Sketti 11-28-2010 02:54 PM

That guy is a condescending, American bashing di~k! Fu~k him!

Exactly! Comparing Tiff's driving skill to Clarkson's is an insult to Tiff.

Saying Tiff Needell Can't drive is straight up blasphemy!
For the record, Clarkson (top gear) can't hold Vicki's (fifth gear) bra nevermind Tiff's jock strap!

Argeed!
Just a few Tiff vids

MG 11-28-2010 03:23 PM

^^^^^ I guess no one will complain about the Tiff being a bad driver anymore. Ha!

Fact of the matter is, our Camaro's arent the best handlig cars out there. Its not the end of the world folks.....all that can change in due time :chevy:

True! Or that he bashes all things American. He chose a ZO6 over a Ferrari 599 and a 911 Turbo! That is something Clarkson would NEVER do!

I think the Camaro did fine in the video. It did still win. It was the L99 compared to the SRT-8. Tiff even said he was pleasantly surprised...

SGOS252382 11-28-2010 03:47 PM

I'm assuming he's driving the L99 A6 because of the HP rating and the fact I never saw him shift gears.
Either way, it still beats an SRT-8 around a race track.

It was. Look at the steering wheel in the vid. You can see the tap-shifters on the back. It was the A6. As you stated it still did beat a SRT-8:)

MG 11-28-2010 03:55 PM

When Fifth Gear gave the actual review of the car a few months back it was the LS3

A little off topic but, how much were those wheels and tires if you dont mind me asking? I really like them. I'm looking at the TSW Nurburgrings and TSW Interlagos to suit my CGM SS

The Nurburgrings were $1400.00. They're 20x9.0 and 20x10.0.

The front tires are the stock 245s. Out back I'm running Nitto 555R drag radials (305/35/20s).
