LED Tail lights
I am assuming the Camaro tail lights are using regular lamps. Has anybody considered modifying the tail lights to LED's? Seems that would have been a nice touch for the RS since more new cars are being equipped with them.

im sure there will be something out to convert it

as an EE, let me be the first to say it is the first thing I will be working on when I get my Camaro!!

There are lots of sites (like this one http://www.coolights.com/LED-Tail-Lights_c_606.html and this one http://www.superbrightleds.com/tail-brake-turn.html) that offer replacement LED lights and bulbs as well as conversion kits.

I will consider it. I don't want to make mine look cheapened by a poorly designed kit, so I will do my research first.

You know how some Cadillac (I think that's what I saw) tail lights look? You can't really see each individual LED. Instead of seeing the LEDs behind the lens, it looks like the lens itself has the LEDs embedded in it for a very finished look. I need to look at one closely to see how those are constructed. |
Check these out:

Let me know if you have questions and I'll do my best to help you out. - Michael |
I just realized that you are looking for a 69 Camaro light (the above is 67), here is the 69 Camaro taillight with the LED kit installed:

I was thinking '69 led lights might look cool.

I forgot all about this thread. Just yesterday I went to this place online and found these LED lamp assemblies. They're only $12 apiece.
http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/3156_57_specs.htm And, after looking at the tail lights when they are illuminated with the factory bulbs, they seem to be pretty darn evenly lit across the lens. I think these LEDs will work fine without having to modify the lights for LED arrays. I'm going try one to compare its lighting to the standard bulbs and see what they look like. |
