CAMARO 1SS: 111 MORE HORSEPOWER THAN MUSTANG GT 2010 HAHAHA

Hi Everyone,

I was just checking out Chevy's new Camaro website and I found this little nugget of information :

"Camaro 1SS Advantages over Ford Mustang V8 GT Coup (2010): Up to 111 More Hosepower".

http://www.chevrolet.com/allnewcamar...car-comparison

I showed this to my friend who recently ordered a new, um, "car", and he is PISSED OFF... not just because he's car is slower, but because the Ford dealer told him that the Camaro's will never be faster, better, or have more horsepower than Mustangs. (He didn't shop much).

I can't wait to get mine... !

Hate to break this to you, but that's like telling us the Pope is catholic. ;)

You think everyone here isn't aware that the Camaro has 426 hp?

I gave my Son our 05 Mustang GT and this is sinking in on him more and more every day.
I have spent a bunch on his Stang just to make one of us feel better about this. :bonk:

I know the Camaro has more horsepower... but I just love the way its stated on their website. It's more than a poke in a ribs... its a poke in the ribs, with a subtle, sly, smirk.

I just hope that's your copy/paste mistake, and not the official Camaro site misspelling "Coupe"

One could argue that the "top model" Camaro has not been released yet!

:word: PERSONALLYy i feel you cant compare any higher to the GT500 unless you have the (dare i say it) Z28. the GT500 is in a different price range as well

IMO The SS and GT are the Competitors if you go by engine & price range (i realize the price of the GT is less than the SS but the GT500 is relatively higher) again this is my opinion and thats how i compare the cars

Even on the low side of pricing it's only about a $2K difference. I guess if you'd rather not spend the xtra $2K for more power and a better looking car that's your personal preference.

Actually in the "car business" you compare cars of similar cost.

Hmmm....2010 base Mustang GT starts at $28,845 w/ dest. charge, GT Premium starts at $31,845 w/ dest. charge

Camaro 1SS starts at $30,995 w/ dest. charge.

Should we compare it to the 2009 GT-500 that costs $46,325 w/o dest. charge instead?

It's called Camaro V8 = most bang for your buck $30K will buy for a new car.

tell your friend that camaros have nearly ALWAYS been faster, better, and more powerful than the mustang. save for the Cobras and GT500's. and a few instances back in the 80's when the fox body first came about

TomServo 03-19-2009 08:37 PM

The poor Mustang boys and girls need a $45K GT500 to compete. No thanks. No sane person pays $45K for a Mustang.

fdjizm 03-19-2009 08:40 PM

you guys are silly lol...

RallyFever 03-19-2009 08:43 PM

No kidding, for 45k we can get a base vette and once again beat the 45k Ford

Your comments are ridiculous but extremely entertaining.
It's good to know that the blue oval boys are already working on their excuses.

If I invest the 12k less I paid on my 2SS into the performance of my vehicle, I will GLADLY take on your "Top Model"

Last I heard dealers were still marking up the GT-500s. Good bang, but for a LOT of bucks! You can buy the much lighter 436 horse Vette coupe for that money, which is a lot more fun to drive.

That's most of our points as well.
I could care less about the whole Mustang-Camaro thing.
I typically am a Corvette guy but I love the new retro style.

Be realistic with your comparisons and you will not have any issues on this site. However, attempting to compare the GT500 to the 1SS, while a much closer comparison in performance vice the GT, is not a comparison at all in pricing - totally different market.

JMAN311 03-19-2009 08:52 PM

The ford comparison tool is interesting. Like how many errors it has about the Camaro, lol. They really should get that price, hp, mpg updated instead of giving misinformation.

I was just trying to point out that the model has nothing to do with the Mustang/Camaro because they put them in at different price points. You can compare similar priced models to each other and make it a fair way of comparing what you get. :respekt:

MotorTrend numbers for Camaro being advertised tomorrow and it's not 4.7

Try 4.5 (4.7 was GM's conservative estimate for average driver)

did you beat 112ft. ?

LPFSTheFett 03-19-2009 09:10 PM

The F-body has been faster then the Mustang since 1993 and I don't see that changing anytime soon. At the end of the day, Ford still sells more Mustangs and didn't have to stop producing their slower car for 8 years.

I'm a pretty die hard GM guy, but I'm pretty realistic about the products they put out and at the end of they day Ford does a better job marketing and selling a "slower car". I will agree that the GT500KR is a joke though. Your literally paying 35k for a cold air kit and tune. At least the 35k sticker price increase from a Z06 to ZR1 actually gives you a net benifit.

Nah, they're just kids mostly wantin' to race anything, win or lose.

They used to pull up to my ZO6 and want a race.
Not worth the fuel was my take most of the time.

I did, however, hand out a few whoopins to the GT500 and Cobra guys a few times.
