Was shoock that they said the place hasn't been repaved since 1978.

Bunch of cheap skates there if you ask me.

Nascar should demand a new track surface every 5-10 years or lose the race.

Which is more then reasonable for the damage n abuse they take, which is way worse then the average highway.

TLC has OCC on if your board.

Put out some traffice cones and tell them to drive around it. Duh !!!! lol

I'll bet the track is paved before next years 500. This has to be pretty embarrassing for the speedway.

this is crazy....getting some study time in though..should turn into a crazy finish with a later finish

Reminds me of; was it last year?, can't member the track either.

We've had almost as much rain in Florida as everyone else is getting snow. The blacktop held the water in the 'hill' that is the embankment, but given a way out, the water is starting to seep and preventing the patch from curing.

The cost is ~$20 million dollars, and cost isn't the only issue. Not everyone wants to see it repaved:
Roush Fenway Racing driver Carl Edwards said making the tracks smoother takes away some of racing's fun.
"The rougher the better," Edwards said. "When you're out there sliding around and moving, it makes it harder. If the track is like Talladega ... it wouldn't be nearly as fun. I think repaving Darlington was the most frustrating thing they've done."

umm, the people who own NASCAR own Daytona and several other tracks. I doubt they intend to take the signature race of the series away from themselves...

They used to be unbeatable with their restrictor plate engines, and of course, having 'The Intimidator' behind the wheel was a HUGE factor. :D (Racing hasn't been the same for me since '01 :()

Like the NHRA who slows down the cars rather then build new track that can deal with modern speeds so old as dirt 10ft longer then a 1/4mile tracks still get paid?

well the track is coming apart again...going to finish under the lights!!! and harvick is the strongest car for sure right now

With all the time wasted, a local company could of brought in some hot patch, like they do one roads. It sticks very well. though can be soft for heavy loads.

I was hoping the hotpach job done to fill the pot hole down the road would of popped out this winter but nadda so far.

But the idiots filled the hole the day before garbage day, and the truck stopped with it rear wheels right on that patch, so insted of a no big deal shallow hole, you get a severs double hump bump you avoid at all cost.

ON a postive note, maybe they can find a way to blame it on Toyota ;)
