It is the tires you have. Upgrade to Z-rated tires and get a tune and you will be fine. Of course, only do this if you don't worry about the warranty.

because you bought an LS. which are equiped with a 118mph rated tires, which is why gm put a speed limiter on your car. if the car allowed you to go any faster, you have a great possibility of blowing your tires.

if you do want to blow your tires and perhaps risk your life, and others, then get a trifecta tune. You can also upgrade your tires, but you still need to get a tune to deactivate the speed limiter.

Then yours slipped through the crack only the Lt models have the limiter removed. I ran into this issue when I got my car dyno'd

LT models speed limiter removed? Well I guess I will need to find a place to test this out!! :-)

Not true. I wasn't racing but put the pedal to the metal as they say to see what it could do and the limiter came on at 118. :(

yes, my uncles ls could go past the 118 and mine couldn't -_-

Guess some just slip through the cracks

So, for a 2012 1LT with RS package (P-Zero tires) would there be a speed limiter? What is the top speed supposed to be?

118 without the PZeros.
155 with the PZeros.

(If I recall correctly).

EDIT: You may not need RS-package on the LT to have the limiter set to 155. Does anyone know if the non-RS 19" wheels still come with PZero Nero UHP all season tires, or similar? (they did in 2010) I think those have the same speed rating as the PZero summer tires.

what track are you running on?

meissen 07-17-2012 07:43 AM

Most people find the speed limiter while they're on the dyno, which is where I saw it. Switched to 3rd gear for the pull and that resolved the issue (of being able to do a full dyno pull without hitting 118mph)

As far as "I didn't buy a Camaro to only go 118mph" - there's so much fail in that statement it's ridiculous. 118mph speed restriction as mentioned is a safety feature because of the speed rating on the tires the car came with. There's absolutely no reason to ever need to go faster than 100mph, and even that is stretching it.

Indeed. But if I could find a safe, non-public, piece of pavement where I could give it a run... I'd love to see what she's got. :)
