big 3 upgrade question

been thinking about doing a big 3 upgrade (or big 2, since i dont want to run 15 feet of positive cable through the cabin), but im not sure on the function of the negative battery current sensor and if there are any issues associated with it not accurately measuring all current going to or from the battery.
does anyone know what the car actually uses the current sensor for and if there are any issues with adding a second battery negative that would allow some or all current flow (in and out) to bypass the current sensor?

That sensor's purpose is to provide information to the car about the state of charge and battery health.

It's a pretty common mod for guys to add an additional ground to the battery - frame and frame - engine. No harm in it and that sensor will still operate normal.
