Supercharger Vs Turbo

I know this has been brought a million times but I need to ask again. I was in the process of getting rid of my Camaro (Cam and full boltons, 450HP/TQ) to get a Mustang. I was tired of them always beating me at the track and all they had was a tune and an intake. My wife has given me permission to go spend around 7K on the car.

This car is a 6 speed manual daily driver with weekend trips to the track. Do I need to go turbo or supercharger? Which brand is going to give the most bang for the buck? I have heard to stay away from the Edelbrock superchargers. The stock ZL1 superchargers go for about $4500 with the blower and conversion kit.

Is it safe to buy used or should I just buy new?

That has nothing to do with a supercharger or turbo.

your making 450 wheel and your having issues with intake tune stangs?

You need smaller rims, bigger tires and more suspension dialed in.

If you must add boost. I went Huron single turbo kit. A very close second would be a ECS centrifugal kit.

LSA looks like a really good cost effective option as well.

Considering you have a motor cam, i think centrifugal style blowers like n/a build cams.

Those are awesome numbers. How much did you pay in total for parts and labor if you don't mind me asking.

On price u have to talk to Kevin! It's different for everyone or package u want!! But I can tell you one when he told me how much - I can't refuse the offer( I was even not planning to buy yet) on installation I did myself in 2 days( over weekend) not hard at all( I got tools and experience work on cars , but never work on Camaro )! Full tune cost me 500( but I had my own hp tuners professional )! To get even bigger numbers in future( after build engine) all you have to do turn boost up , with supercharger u need buy more parts and upgrades! Supercharger good out of the box as kit to 600whp( depend on kit and coast as much as turbo kit)but after require spend more money to get more power

The intake and tune mustangs that are beating you are probably auto cars I'm guessing. Its your car but after i put on my heads and cam in a month or so, my next mod will be switching to the 4L80E auto. I know its not for everyone but I'm betting you can pick up a lot of E.T. with the auto and some dedicated tires. If your wanting to run faster at the track, the auto trans will get you there faster at the same power level.

You can have all the power in the world but if you cant put it down it's worthless. Some suspension mods and a set of drag radials would help a lot.

Why would you switch to a 4l80 if you're just bolt ons? You will be slower because of the gearing of the 4l80. You are better going to a 6l80/90 at your power level.

It's definitely not worth it for lower hp cars imo

I'm guessing you are losing the race at the starting line do you have any drag slips or times with 60 ft, and have you done anything with your suspension or is it all stock,

Most definitely I can see why you would want to auto swap. But if you just have a cai i would trade the car in for an auto instead of spending the 5-6k it will be for the swap.

6l80 first gear- 4.0x
4l80 first gear-2.48

See what I was getting at? The 6l80/90 is much better suited for a car that is basically stock

My old car was a auto, and you need to keep in mind a auto swap won't just get you there, you need to optimize it with the correct rear end gears, and a good stall converter and after that you need to make sure your suspension is in order and then top it off with some nice sticky tires

turbos will only spool at certain rpms that you probably wouldn't be getting into much during you daily commutes and superchargers are constantly going in and out of boost (my buddy has a 11' SS Supercharged and cammed driven daily) so i would go turbos. You will make more power more efficiently and can always control how much power you want and when you want it if you get a boost controller. Plus, you can't beat the spool and blowoff sound of a turbo
