Yep! Now...if the final paperwork would come through, we'd be all set!

GearHeadPeter 03-31-2011 06:52 PM

All good things come to those that wait, and this too will come to pass. Then it is party time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TAG UR IT 03-31-2011 07:16 PM

hehe...when applying for permits, insurance, talking to several departments, it's a LOT to do!

Just a couple more things and all should be a go.;)

Yup.... bad bad bad.....

I wish I could just hire these guys...and have them do their thing. This stuff has to go by committee after committee...

We in the government, and I just work at a college, call that death by committee, and since it takes so long to have everyone approve it nothing gets done in a timely manner. Hang in there, it wil get done. It is like me waiting for my steering wheel to be made by ACE. I have to wait in order for it to be right. :D

TAG UR IT 04-02-2011 08:17 PM

Well, if they actually expect us to pay them $200 just so we can drive through their town, they are sorely mistaken. Simply on principle alone, I won't do this if they are going to force us to pay them $200 for "right of entry." No way...no how...not going to happen...

I'd rather change the route down the 202 ONLY to make this work...

I think the 202 route would be better, and I agree what they are asking is out of line. :bs:

fourhounds 04-02-2011 09:31 PM

I know you worked hard to make this happen and appreciate all your efforts ... . . Scale the run back some... . Let us all just leave the Hotel and park at the racetrack. SWEET n SIMPLE we all just want to show off our Camaros. Keep It Simple:chevy:

Oh and I almost forgot the fact ......... 300 plus Camaros going to Firebird on our dime

TAG UR IT 04-02-2011 10:17 PM

We'll see.

I really want to be able to get out there and get a drive in. But, it would be a helluva lot cheaper to just drive on out there. FYI, it looks like it would run us a good $1,400 just to have the police escort for this. So, you can see the issue. More $$ equals less probability we would even do it.

Maybe we can just take a run down the 202.

I for one applaud all that you have been doing for CFII Tag.

Taking a spin from the I-10 to the East San Tan 202 to just before the US-60 interchange, and coming back on the West San Tan 202 bound to Firebird would probably have two lights from when we get off the 202 and get back on again.

I have done the same thing when I take my 65 out for a good run. It takes about 30 minutes from the 1-10/202 East bound freeway to the US-60 Interchange and another 30 minutes back. One hour give or take since there will be so many cars, and you do not have to pay anyone for the privilege of the drive, except for the escort police. :D

Here is the route I propose. The route starts at the Host Hotel, and goes on the 202 East bound. We would get off the 202 at Baseline, and immediately get back on the 202 West bound. The whole trip is about 42 miles and should take 1 hour.

Good luck Tag and let me know if I can be of any help.

TAG UR IT 04-02-2011 10:55 PM

^^Thanks.

That route looks more promising with the latest news.

GearHeadPeter 04-02-2011 10:57 PM

Good. I am glad I can be of assistance as I want everyone that comes to Arizona to have a good time, and see some of the sites along the way.

That sucks, total Arizona way to jack things up. The 202 should be fine around Firebird, ADOT doesn't have any projects coming up. When I drove by last week most of the construction I mentioned in earlier posts has cleared up.

LOCKENESS-MONSTA 04-03-2011 09:05 AM

I have always liked the 202 idea better anyways (and drive on it daily). The only concern is that they are adding a carpool lane and ramp at the 101. It is not very restrictive normally...unless ADOT shuts it down. This would be posted before hand, so it shouldn't be much of a problem. I am not familiar with Firebird race track area... but if we get separated a little is there an area we can pull over to re-group just before entering??

Thanks for the hard work putting this together!

TAG UR IT 04-03-2011 10:12 PM

We won't get separated as the group would be escorted by police. They will keep everyone together.

Question.

Is the 202 partially below ground level? Would we have a restricted view if we took the 202? I not only want to get all the cars together, but want to make sure we have a good view while we are at it.

How about a trip to the West Valley? Cabelas has a huge parking lot and so does Westgate.

The trip needs to start from 1100 S. Price Rd (the host hotel) and end up at Firebird. Those two variables can't change.

Yes most of the newer portions east of the 101 are.

Not bad, goes by downtown, Tempe Town Lake, ASU and Papago park. Should be pretty scenic and you won't encounter a lot of downtown traffic on Saturday morning.

I concur as that route is pretty nice. The section that is below grade is where the northern 202 meets the 101 in Scottsdale, but that is only for maybe 3-5 miles otherwise the route is mostly above grade. It would be an awesome cruise IMHO. :D

You can possibly stage on top of south mountain. I'll map it later today for u

ponbigi 04-04-2011 08:17 AM

FYI they are building hov interchanges on the 10 at 202 and at the 101 and 202 which may result in weekend freeway closures. Check the azdot website for closures that weekend

wyocamaro 04-04-2011 08:31 AM

Regarding Tags newest route and the comment above, If closures, then why nor skip the airport traffic/curves and drop south on the 51 or the 143? I bet the AZPD may feel better about that one. Have you checked with Nick and AZ All gens for some help with PD?
If it will fly I concure on the latest route proposed by Tag.
