Please describe Hurst shifter noise

I notice some owners complain of excessive noise with aftermarket shifters. I was wondering if the described noise is all the time as you are going down the road, or just when you are shifting. Also, is there only one version of the Hurst shifter? Thanks in advance...

There is two hurst shifters one is the one made for GM that comes with the car if you ordered it that way, The next one is the aftermarket one that has the 44% lees movement,
I have had one for over a year and at first had a Small metallic rattle, As i am driving down the road, For me it only happened with the White ball and the T handle not with the OEM shifter.

This is the Hurst aftermarket shifter:

The GM/Hurst shifter from the factory sounds (and pretty much looks) exactly the same as stock.

I have the Hurst aftermaket Billet Plus and the only noise is during accelerating, especially if I have my hand on the shifter. During normal driving and cruising there is NO noise at all!

I have the Billet Plus 2. The only noise I ever get is a slight rattle at wide open throttle. But when I'm at WOT on this beast, a little rattle is the least of my concerns!!

The Hurst, or any after market short throw shifter is a worthwhile upgrade. You'll love it. It's all preference. I choose Hurst because this isn't their first rodeo. They know what they're doing!

I can understand the draw to the Hurst shifter given the heritage and all. On the other hand the MGW shifter is well made and doesn't rattle or make any noise, at least in my cars.

Thanks for the replies, I actually prefer the hurst because of its retro look (and I obviously want the short throw). A little more noise when I am actually shifting is fine, I just wanted to make sure it didn't rattle as you were going down the road.. Thanks again...

I have the Barton shifter with the flat handle similar to the hurst and the white ball. I get a metallic buzz at times under hard acceleration and high rpms. Doesn't happen all the time and almost never happens when my windows are down at least a couple of inches.

Now before you say I am crazy or just can't hear it I have tested this every way possible and it is repeatable. It's not just that I can't hear it but I can't feel it either. Someone said that having the windows down some can change the harmonics of the cabin.

Mine has no slop when in gear like I have seen with some shifters. It is nice and tight but the metallic noise will translate through the shifter becuase there is now plastic or rubber dampeners.

Either way it's minimal at best on mine.
