Schmidty's 2011 2SS/RS UPGRADE

Just got back from the dealership with my new-to-me 2011 Cyber Gray Metallic 2SS/RS! Pretty stoked. I parted out much of my 2011 Imperial Blue Metallic 2LT/RS and sold her.

I had been playing around with the idea of an upgrade for a while now, but never felt any pressure to make the change, nor did I care that my buddies who have an SS would give me grief. It's all in good fun! Now that I have had my 2LT/RS for 2 years and modded her as much as I could, I felt I was ready for the change. I searched Autotrader, 12 dealerships in my area, MSN.com and Cars.com and didnt see much worth my attention. My buddy said to try Carmax so I gave it a shot and found this beauty of an SS sitting in the lot in Bakersfield, CA. I immediately called and had them ship her to San Diego. Before I even saw the car in person I ordered several mods. Haha! Well today was the day...they called to tell me the car was here! I took the next available appointment and spent 80 minutes checking out the car, test-driving it, and signing on the dotted line. Working with Carmax was great! This beauty has 10,620 miles on her and makes me smile! When I walked away from her after parking her in the garage I did the double-take...you know what I'm talking about!

First Mods

It's been one week since I took ownership of my SS! Lovin' the permagrin! I immediately had the windows tinted at 25% all around. I also installed the AAC LED Sidemarkers, Black Bezels, Technostalgia LED Tail Lights and Roto-Fab Intake. My good buddy VEESIKS (David) took the lead on helping me install Stainless Works 3" Retro Chambered Catback with Flat Black Tips and Longtube Headers. Pics and Video below.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...aro-Intake.jpg

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...th_Exhaust.jpg
Removing the exhaust and headers took about on hour. Hanging the Stainless Works long tubes was about 15 minutes. And then we discovered that the upstream O2 sensors were not coming off the stock tubes. We sprayed with PB blaster three times, used a torch, and air tools. We simply removed my sensors from my V6 and we were on our way. The Stainless Works exhaust comes with at least 12 clamps which were a job to install (sarcasm). Ha! I will get everything welded hopefully this week. Still the best exhaust out there! Thanks to David for hanging in there with me! We started at 7PM and finished at Midnight! And thanks to Apex Chase for the great prices, fast shipping, and amazing service as always!

Thanks guys! I have to admit I am pretty smitten with the SS! I purposefully never drove an SS because I didn't want to lose the permagrin from my V6. The V6 is an awesome car with some great power...but dayum this SS is fun to drive! :headbang:

Just ordered the Xenon Body Scoops and the Havoc Diffuser!

Schmidty 07-10-2013 05:50 PM

Havoc Diffuser and Xenon Body Scoops arrived today! ALso have the NLP spoiler and picking up the ZL1 bumped on Saturday and taking everything to the body shop for paint! Totally stoked!:bonk::clap2::thumbup:

BluePhoenix 07-10-2013 06:06 PM

Congrats on the new purchase! Looks like your car is coming along nicely!

Schmidty 07-27-2013 06:18 PM

After spending 4 hours on the base with Scott working on the Pfadt Lowering Springs and Sways she is finally done with her first set of mods!!
  • ZL1 Replica Front Fascia with HIDs
  • AAC Colorshift Halo's and Fogs
  • Xenon Rear Body Scoops
  • NLP Spoiler in Satin Black
  • Havoc Diffuser in Satin Black

In certain lights, at certain angles, the paint on the front fascia appears a bit lighter. In person it appears near perfect. Just the cost of buying aftermarket parts. I am happy with the outcome.

CGM is officially my favorite color :)

Thanks again and feel free to contact me if you ever need anything!

Rolled the fenders today!!! Finally!!! I know its nothing to brag about but Jesus it took forever to find someone to do it! With the 275s up front and 315s in the back, and lowered 1.5 inches the fenders were chewing up my tires when I hit a dip! I bought the car to drive it like I stole it so hopefully I can now...gotta plan a cruise soon! :thumb up:

Next up...replace my color shifts with stock RS halos! Someone else will love those AAC Colorshift 2.0s and I will once again love my stock halos.

Schmidty 12-09-2013 02:53 PM

I'm not too sure about that. Tore up the bumper of my SS on that Borrego Springs cruise. Definitely don't wanna do that on this car. The front end was never the same after that. Lots of sand, rocks, etc chipped the paint and destroyed the windshield. Maybe on a not so gritty route I would.

Deftones 12-09-2013 06:48 PM

Great progress, looks good.

Thanks Grant! She doesn't have those sick fenders like yours but I love her just the same. And yes, Aaron was serious. On the last cruise I planned those Side Scoops flew right off! The shop had used double stick tape to "install" them even though I asked them to mold them on. Still planning to get them molded but have been avoiding that shop!

Hurst Auto Shifter arrives tomorrow, and Zl1 Rockers arrive on Friday! Still waiting for that Christmas Check so I can start chatting with CMS about a cam!

I got the rear vinyl cutouts from mnpcustoms but they do not appear to be in business anymore. There website is gone and they haven't posted on their Facebook in almost 2 years.

My buddy (VEESIKS) did it for me...but truthfully it isn't that hard. You have to remove the faceplate, radio, glove box, and center console, then just plug in a few wires. I know I made it sound super simple, but its not too difficult.

VEESIKS 07-07-2014 05:47 AM

Mylink install is pretty simple if you have the proper instructions. Neither of our computers had a disc drive......and well.....we couldn't find the disc haha

Schmidty 07-14-2014 10:19 PM

Just installed a JL Stealthbox and Kicker 1500.1 Amplifier and the Reverse Camera from Gen5DIY.
