When I get time I'm going to do the ls7 rear blackout, bezels, and either hood spears, or leaving the raised part of the hood white and plasti-dipping the rest of the hood. Not sure but I used this on my rims on the last camaro, so I feel comfortable using it for the ls7 blackout. I will deff post pics when its done

stieger: what do you mean when you said you don't recommend the wheels as it would disintegrate over time?

Thanks for pointing that out, I guess I should rephrase it. What I mean by "disintegrate over time" is that through driving your car the plasti dip will get hit/scraped/etc and might start to show spots where it has been ripped (is that the right word?). What I was getting at is that you may have to redo your wheels after say a year or so. That's all I was getting at with it.

Ah ok. See in my head I was thinking of all the wheels that people had been plastidipped turning into molten metal... maybe I've been watching to much TV lately hahaaha :D

did my front and rear of the car.
Again, peeling off when dip is wet is the key to a good edge.

Ugh I need to redo my LS7 trunk black out. I didn't lay down a perfect final coat so some parts look like they were stroked by a paint brush with clear coat. Plus when I was washiong my car I slipped and ran the towel too quickly along the edge and part of it peeled a little. Getting the masking tape to line up the upward facing edges around the lights was a pain especially around the curves.

Here's my trunk.

I also did the front bumper.

I plan to plasti-dip my spoiler, roof and do the lower part of the diffuser between the bezels. Once I get my race ramps I'll do my rims.

It's a rubber polymer that is a liquid until it is exposed to air for a long period of time. At which point it becomes a very durable and hard rubber. It can be peeled off without hurting the material underneath. It comes in a spray can and in a dippable can.

ac cobra 08-14-2011 02:51 PM

how do you guys tape around curves like around front lower grill .thinner tape? having a hard time following curves thanks

1badtie 08-14-2011 03:01 PM

so this stuff wont come off in a car wash right? or an automatic wash?

jamaro2011 08-14-2011 03:22 PM

Correct it won't come off during a far wash.

Ject 08-18-2011 05:55 PM

hmmm... so does it feel rubbery like the rubber on pliers?
Looks to be a matte / satin black tone to it.

Worth a try i suppose..
I just don't know what I could do on a CGM lol.

I decided to give it a shot. After a few test coats I got the hang of it. It's really all about laying down the tape properly and removing it asap.

bigwayne3000 08-22-2011 09:42 PM

I did my rear bowtie last Friday. Tomorrow after I wash my car, I will be doing my hood spears and maybe the front grille area depending how much time I feel like investing into doing it. Ill post pics in here once I'm done.

This may sound like a horribly dumb question but, have any of you guys done your rims with the tires still on? Obviously have the tires taped off.

Please excuse my inexperience in this nifty craft. Thanks for the awesome write up.

The Stig 08-24-2011 02:29 PM

Not a stupid question. But yes, I'd say almost all of us did our wheels with the tires still on.

Thanks man. I think I'll give it a shot. Did you just cover the tires and tape them with painters tape?

yup that's exactly what I did.

Ject 08-24-2011 04:41 PM

If it goes on like paint... how is one suppose to remove it? I bought some and practiced on my old stock exhaust to see how it covers, did 4 light to medium coats..

It covers like paint.. im afraid to try it on the wheels.

Sweet! Might try the tail light bezels first then move on to the rims. Thanks for the tips.

jambo_ashang 08-25-2011 12:24 AM

can you spray it on top of vinyl? like my rally stripes?

carbon8 08-25-2011 12:41 AM

Guys it just peels off. SO EASY A CAVEMAN CAN DO IT.
