did you know..
that if you do not have your key fully extended when you start the car, you will get the theft alert on the DIC and the car won't start?
I usually flip my key back 90° when driving, keeps me from wacking my knee on the house key.. tried to start my car with the key only half open.. can't do it.. didn't realize the key apparently completes the circuit for the RFID (or whatever system GM is using) signal. |
Interesting. Going to try this when I go to lunch today.

I guess you learn something new every day. I might have to give it a try and see what happens.

Yup sure enough it wouldn't turn on.

Hmm. So somebody can't just take or somehow copy the key part and steal your ride. Interesting.

bull&hit, tried every orientation, key fully and not fully opened, and the car starts fine... ill take a video, can you do the same?
|
Wow, that's a new one! Still finding 'new' discoveries 4 model years in.

yeah i'll do a video.. my car won't start unless the key is fully extended.. some others have verified the same.. Now once the car is started it doesn't matter if you fold back the key, as I said I have been doing that to keep the keys from rattling and smacking my knee. But I'll make a video when I go to lunch. |
Sure enough! Just tried this, got an STD :sm0:

One day you are going to have an RFID inside you too :-)

Makes no difference in the key position. Starts with the key not fully open just as it does fully extended. |
2010 SS here and it does'nt matter whether the keys fully extended or not..........starts right up. So this appears to be a feature exclusive to 12's............wondering if they added it at some point in the production run and whether the feature varies by VIN/build date/number or whether the V6 models like (
velocity149 ) are exempt, the OP's is a SS? |
