Camaro Z28 / "HP Edition" name choice poll

Given the rumor flying around lately that the 'Z28' moniker is not guaranteed for this archangel of Camaros (especially because there was no mention of the actual "Z28" name at the national Chevy dealer meeting)...I'm kind of curious....

Suppose the rumors were gone and it was definitely named Z28...would you buy it?

All are welcome to answer, even if you're not planning on purchasing this model anyways. Also feel free to discuss why a name would effect your decision, or not (I'm especially interested in hearing from the folks who think it shouldn't be named 'Z28'). But please refrain from arguing over your reasons. THANKS!

I think it shouldn't be called Z/28, because 1st gens Z/28 were made affordable to most, and I think the HPE more like the ZL1, and maybe the Z/28 with 450-80 hp, and suspension upgrades.

off topic: Whatever it is starts production on a great day, my birthday :happyanim: It makes the my b-day even more special

This is the 5th generation Camaro that I have waited patiently to buy. Power, handling, styling, the best of what GM has to offer to us today. The Z/28 was originally developed to be an absolute screamer on the race track by putting the best parts available into a package for a special Camaro and by 1968, only its second year of production, it was dominating SCCA Trans Am events, and continued to do so throughout the 1969 year. The heritage associated with this nameplate is second to none. If this car is going to be the pinnacle of Camaro performance in the 5th generation platform, then it deserves a name none other than Z/28.

It may be time to come up with a brand new name for the Gen 5 Hi Performance edition.
SS, Z28, ZL1 all have histories in Camaro and there are people who argue that "their" moniker is better than "yours".
To start a new chapter in Camaro history with the most powerful one ever, a completely new name is appropriate, IMO

I'm still buying it no matter what they call it!!

I voted wrong first but I changed it back.

I would buy it no matter what, but I think any other name other than Z28 is a shame.

Unless they name it the Panther Performance Camaro as previously suggested in the big thread, I'm in! :chevy:

Too much good stuff to toss it all aside over the name.

Should be Z28. IMO

If its meant to be the king of road courses, Z28
If its meant to be the king of the drag strip, ZL1

JJ#48Racing 01-14-2011 10:33 PM

I think it deserves the Z28 name. It will be the best performing Camaro ever (save for maybe the 4th gen ZL1's at the drag strip), so why would any true Z28 fan not want it? Besides, with the Z06 and ZR1 being the top levels of the Corvette, it just makes sense.

Wow,.......this is kind of a personal question..... Hmm.......I'll have to get back to you. :emoticon3:

Save the Z/28 moniker for the Boss 302 killer...like I said in the other post I could care less is they just change the fender emblems to supercharged and its just known as "supercharged edition" ZL1 would make the most sense for this monster but looks like SLP has that covered already

chris322 01-14-2011 11:45 PM

What if they pull what they did with the Monte Carlo in 2004 and just call it "Supercharged SS?"
