Standard vs Automatic Racing

Alright so this has puzzled me and I dont want to listen to anyone but Camaro owners. I have a couple of friends who race really shitty ricers. Im not much into racing as I do have the V6 but I would like to get into modding giving me a little led in the gun for going against Mustang GT's but this is what my friends told me. It would be a waste of money modding an Automatic car because manual transmissions will always have me beat. He states that if I go against the same exact car with a Manual Transmission it will out run me by alot hints why racecar drivers drive stick. He even said his 4 banger prelude would rape me but it was quite the opposite as I took him at a red light 0-60 by 3 car lengths. Give me your opinions on this and if its true I will def sell my auto and get a standard before doing any mods.

Your friends don't know crap. Almost ALL serious drag racers have automatics. They are more consistent, easier to launch than sticks. My money is on an auto vs manual all things being equal.

Honestly I doubt it, I have a 2010 2SS/RS with LG FULL exhaust, programmed and with intake, and I kicked a 2010 bare stock manual 2SS.

For drag racing...AUTO. You will get the most consistant runs with an Auto. That is why I bought an auto tranny'ed Corvette, as I was drag racing. Manuals may be a little faster, as you can hold the gears longer, but unless you are awesome on the tree with a stick, I would put my money on the auto.

There is no way that I would be able to cut 1.48 60's if my car was a stick. With the auto its so much easier to avoid mistakes.

auto is only better when you have ALLOT of HP.... a v6 camaro you want a manual.... if you have like 600 hp then ya auto is better for the drag

check this article out it gives you some great info for on the pro's and cons of both transmissions. I still say manual though. http://www.modernracer.com/tips/drag...echniques.html

Auto for drag racing. You have to be a good driver for drag racing a stick. Mine is a manual cause I want drag race every weekend. I love shifting myself. take more skill to drag a stick.

If you're drag racing for fun....drive a manual. If you're racing to WIN....drive an Auto. You will NEVER get the consistent launches and times with a manual...no matter how good or skilled you are at driving. Period.

I have an automatic and have had it tuned along with headers, high flo cats, corsa exhaust and a CAI. I raced a manual 2010 SS that had what I had plus a supercharger, I ran a 12.73 to his 12.35 quarter mile. He did get me but just over 3 car lengths but he had the supercharger so I would have to say that you are not wasting your time moding the auto!!! If I had a supercharger on mine I would have smoked him!!!
