Camaro Coupe Spotted as Official 2011 Daytona 500 Pace Car!

Reported on HOMEPAGE.

It appears that the 2011 Camaro will serve as the pace car for the 2011 Daytona 500 race, wrestling back the spot from the Mustang, which was last year's Daytona 500 pace car. GM engineers were recently putting the 2011 Camaro Daytona 500 Pace Car through some shakedown tests at GM's proving grounds in Michigan, no doubt to work out any potential kinks prior to its debut on February 20, 2011 at the Daytona 500.

This Camaro pace car showcases the 2011 Camaro Synergy Series special edition Camaro which will be available this year [More Info HERE]. The 2011 Camaro Synergy Series features:
  • Chevrolet Accessory Heritage Grille, ground effects package, and dovetail spoiler (production)
  • 21-inch painted wheel (silver finish, optional for production)
  • Special stripes
  • Body-color antenna
  • Gray interior with red stitching on the seat, steering wheel, door panels, console lid, shifter boot, shift knob and headrest (production)
  • Red instrument cluster and accent lighting
  • Chevrolet Accessory interior trim kit in Silver Ice
  • Chevrolet Accessory floor mats with red border and silver Camaro lettering
  • Footwell and cupholder lighting
  • LS3 6.2L engine and six-speed manual transmission (with 2SS only)
  • Chevrolet Accessory Hurst shifter with red stitching
  • Chevrolet Accessory engine cover in red
  • Brembo brake calipers in red (with 2SS only)
  • Pedders lowering kit (licensed Camaro accessory, not included in production package)

The Camaro coupe last served as the Dayton 500 pace car in 2009.

Beyond the Daytona 500, it was also recently announced that the 2011 Camaro SS convertible will pace this year's Indy 500 race. The pace car was just revealed at the Barrett Jackson auctions.

HATE the rear spoiler.

Makes the back of the car look terrible.

2010 SSRS 01-25-2011 11:07 PM

that looks awesome

Shurenuff 01-25-2011 11:11 PM

Not a fan of the dovetail. It looks slapped on and doesn't integrate well (also don't like that it's broken up into three pieces). The Leno dovetail is a much better design IMO.

Beautiful. A great way to end my long day. Thanks!!!

couldnt agree more.

Char1ieone 01-25-2011 11:56 PM

Give me that pace sticker back! back:stang:
Congrats again GM, even if this news may be little premature.

Rallysport 01-26-2011 12:40 AM

I like it. Including the rear spoiler. The original stock spoiler was lame IMHO.

Hawgredcamaro 01-26-2011 01:05 AM

Victory Red baby!!!

GaryJr 01-26-2011 01:50 AM

What I'd give to take my camaro around the newly repaved Daytona....

tsnow 01-26-2011 03:02 AM

dovetail spoiler= a bit too much

Leno spoiler= just right

those bright squarish exhaust bezels have overdone their welcome, the only downside to the GFX package.

427Carl 01-26-2011 04:16 AM

Now that's a good looking car!!!!! No Mustnag stripes (Indy 500car)

AND can i get this now??? ( Footwell and cupholder lighting)

snizzle 01-26-2011 06:40 AM

Those wheels. Pure sex.

SSLarry 01-26-2011 07:40 AM

Why is Ford missing out on all these pace car opportunities? Or does GM have some special deal with NASCAR or Sprint?

armysig 01-26-2011 08:07 AM

I like the dove tail. I kind of hope it goes up for sale soon.

LAWMAN 01-26-2011 08:13 AM

Looks good,i just wish we had shots of the interior,

AUS10BMX 01-26-2011 08:20 AM

Remeber how everyone was complaining because they haven't seen any Camaro comercials on TV. Well, that's where Ford and Dodge spend their advertising bucks and this is where GM spends thiers.

I agree, this car does not look lowered. Would help the appearance even more!

jroc7 01-26-2011 10:02 AM

Old news, this car has been sitting at the track for a while. Not sure why no one noticed until now. Still, good looking car (its a Camaro after all). Glad to see the Camaro at all kinds of tracks this year. I was getting sick of seeing Camrys and Tundras, though, seeing a lot of fast cars stuck behind a slow Toyota does kinda seem realistic.

SQUALO 01-26-2011 10:23 AM

My favorite pace car I've seen so far, love every aspect of it. :w00t:

CamaroSkooter 01-26-2011 10:47 AM

I want to see that lightbar painted CGM and installed on top of Doug's car

ron10 01-26-2011 11:05 AM

love it.

cntryman77 01-26-2011 11:08 AM

nice, hope the hood/trunk stripes catch on...I already have that style on my car

RonnieSVT 01-26-2011 11:19 AM

whats the differance between this car and the new heritage editions besides the pace car stickers?

midnighter 01-26-2011 11:53 AM

The front bowtie ruins the heritage grill's look imo.

bobby35ny 01-26-2011 12:23 PM

That dovetail looks mickey mouse.
They should remove the corner pieces.

shawn18 01-26-2011 12:25 PM
