Are the Boston Acoustics & base head unit the same?

Ok, here is the question. Do the Boston Acoustic system and the base system use the same head unit? I know that the Boston system has a power amplifier. Is the amp a separate unit. I ask because I plan on upgrading amps and speakers using "Clean Sweep" to feed them. If the head units are the same, why spend the $495 for the Boston system.

im sure its the same head unit.most likley a separate amp.speakers will make a world of difference.Plus i dont believe the non-BA system has 9 speakers.

That would be ok as I would upgrade them as well. Also, I think there are only 6 speaker locations.
1 - each door
1 - tweeter in each A-piller
2 - rear deck
Someone please confirm.

I've been wondering this forever. When I was in the car in Jacksonville I wasn't able to find any other than those. Sooo.... I dunno. I didn't really look all that hard though. I also didn't find the amp. Maybe it's mounted under the seat or something.

each speaker in the door i believe counts as two so that would make it nine i cant remember why it is two but someone else can

i think it is up here somewhere

2 in door
2 tweets
1 in dash(center speaker)
2 6x9s in back
2 3.5" coaxially mounted on 6x9s
totall 9 speakers

6x9s aren't round. They look more like 6.5s. I probably should've crawled in the trunk and gotten a better look and found a label maybe but that's all I got. And to me it doesn't look like anything else is mounted on them but then again, you probably wouldn't need a big ol harness like that just for normal speakers. It looks like there's 4 wires for each side, 2 per speaker so there very well may be some mounted on there.

That is an oval speaker there dude. Those are 6x9....You been drinking?

That's just the perspective of the 2nd one. I knew I shouldn't have posted it hah. I'm 99.999% sure they're round.

ZZcamaro 02-24-2009 06:49 PM

I know the magnets are round....I still say 6x9...but i would be happy if something else just becuase of the options i would have when I swap them out!!!

Parker 02-24-2009 07:10 PM

It looks oval to me too. The plastic arms hold the magnet are different lengths.

I think the the base audio has 6x9s but the BA system is 6.5s Check out the opening on the top side...

BA on a 2LT

And again, when I was looking at it in person I'm fairly certain I recall seeing round speakers.

ZZcamaro 02-24-2009 07:26 PM

They do look more round there...but they also look bigger than a 6.5....hmmmm who knows...maybe somebody with a car in their garage should chime in....wink, wink, nudge, nudge

Ject 02-24-2009 07:31 PM

I believe the "premium sound" (aka BA) should have round 6 1/2" If you stay with the standard and do not upgrade it will be 6x9's Unless I have been horribly told wrong and seen wrong.
