How much HP / Boost out of a stock engine?

Curious as to how far members have pushed the stock LS3. How much Boost / HP can it withstand ? By stock I mean internals except for cam.

Some push it over 800rwhp.

That's more than I thought.

800s for a few members, as stated already.. Many above 600s and 7s

Tune, fuel system, and octane plays a key roll in the life of a ls3.

700+ RWHP here on an auto

It'll last forever at over 700whp if you drive it gingerly. Mine lasted 6 weeks before the ringlands on #5 let go. 6 gallons of meth in 6 weeks. I was seeing how long it could take the abuse. It did pretty good.

Hahaha I have seen you say the 6 gallons in 6 weeks. I'm running 100% meth and I feel I drive my car pretty hard and, I maybe went throught 1.5 gallons max over the whole summer in NY. Man you were beating it pretty good.

We have made 849rwhp on a stock bottom L99. This was only once on the dyno. Still going strong at 720rwhp. 18psi

its all in the fueling

780-800rwhp on blower.
830-850rwhp on turbos. No blower to spin so stress on the motor is about the same as 40-60hp less with the blower.

Slowhawk 12-27-2013 08:49 AM

Never seen a true 800rwhp on our dyno. Had a few people come in with 800-850rwhp graphs from shops but I think they were 1 hit wonders and turned back down to mid /low 700's.
I've got a few 700-750rwhp cars on stock motor's. Have been that way for a few years.Got 1 Maggie car pushing 14lbs and 705hp/665tq with just a cam, meth. Has been for about 2 years so far.

If you go back and look in my threads entitled "up in a cloud of smoke" i state in there the 6 gallons of meth. Kind of surprised me also, thought a 4 gallon tank would last a year.

I had already had HKE building my new LSX so i figured i would see how much it could take. Every day on the drive into work and back home I would do two 1st-4th pulls on the back north Texas roads. so basically 4 each day i drove the car. I had also recently added the GForce complelte setup with one piece DS and i was testing this stuff also as well as the new McLeod RXT

I was even running a blend of race gas or Torco for an intank octane of about 95.5 and the 100% meth.

Car drove fine with the broken lands on #5 but i also had the top elbow fuel feel fitting on my old LPE twin pump setup shear off and spew fuel all over so i parked it for about 8 months. HKE takes a long, long time but the motor is stout!!!!

Everything else, block, lifters, heads, cylinders, and the other pistons are all in great shape. Just the weakest link was what let go. Imagine that!

Car at the time was tuned by Taylor Simms of Dallas Performance and was at 11 psi and 715rwhp

Thanks everyone for the responses. I read in that "what breaks on a camaro" article that the timing chain is only good to about 500 HP before failure ? Anyone have this experience? Or should I not be worried. My final mods should produce in the neighborhood of 600 rwhp (I'm guessing). I would say that if I did anything past that I would be doing the cam, rockers, and timing chain, if I even go that far.

BigNate 12-27-2013 04:57 PM

Please don't be true.... If so, I'm on barrowed time. But I doubt the timing chain would have a problem. Please, someone else confirm!

BullF-16 12-27-2013 05:21 PM

timing chain is not an issue at any of these power levels
