what never to do while washing your car
 

I feel like an idiot but never try to put the hood up to clean the engine compartment while the wipers are up!! I don't usually clean the engine too often but I had just did my windshield and left the wipers up, figured let's go crazy and do the whole thing. Lifted up the hood forgetting I had the wipers up and heard a not so good sound as I encountered resistance. I saw what was happening as soon as I heard it. Got a small half inch scratch on the hood facing the window right where my hood stripes end. Got some touch up and its hardly noticable but I know its there.....grrrrr. on a funnier note I had 2 jehovah witness people comment about how nice my car was as this was going on, I told them I wasn't interested when they knocked on my door. Guess I should have listened to them.

Been there, done that. Lucky for me, there was no damage. I believe the wipers got pushed back down.

I'm sure we are not the only 2 that have done this either.

Well you guys saved me! I haven't done so, but I wouldn't have really thought about it until now.

I did it once too. No damage. sorry to hear you were unlucky and the wipers got stuck on the hood. In my case, the hood pushed them back down. There may be a micro scratch, but I couldn't see it in the daylight so I am not worried about it.

#8, I did this too!! Put a little 3 inch scrape (mostly clearcoat) right on the back edge of the hood, it's hard to see though, but I touched it up and don't even notice it anymore...untill now that you mentioned it again :(

Now I'll have to re-live the nightmare a few more days till I forget again ;)

Naturally it would only haapen to those of us that are detail/cleaning freaks...just had to wipe if off under the hood too, jeeez .

Exactly spyderwebb, I clean my car all the time and never have done this. I was very surprised. Sorry for the bad memories spyder.
